Autumn looks: cranberry/burgundy smoky eyes

Cranberry and burgundy are two of those colors that often come back on trend, especially during the fall season when they seem to be matching the nature all around us. 

As beautiful as they are, those colors are not so easy to wear (unless you have dark skin, in which case you can rock them on a daily basis). Here are two looks that will allow you to rock cranberry and burgundy without having to opt for the "gothic doll" look (that is, cranberry eyeshadow paired with a full-on black liner). 

1. Apply a cream burgundy base all over the lid, up to the eye socket - which was Benefit's Creaseless Cream in Stiletto for me;

2. Apply a deep plum matte shade on the outer corner, outer crease - for me, that was MAC's Sketch eyeshadow;

3. Add a a caramel colored eyeshadow to blend those two colors in the crease, and smoke it out towards the browbone. I used Vernau by Illamasqua; 

4. This step is optional, but you can place a motherpearl eyeshadow in the center of the lid to highlight. I used Madreperla by Nabla;

5. The inner corner must be well highlighted, but very light colors can have that goth effect. Try a gold eyeshadow instead. Mine was Nabla's Glitz;

6. Repeat the steps on the lower lashline;

7. Use your plum eyeshadow to line the upper and lower lashline, but stop at one third of the lid. 

8. Apply plenty of mascara.

Try to highlight your browbone with something that is the same color of your skin. You can also use your setting powder if you wish. 

This is a rounded shaped smoky eye. Another tip is try using a golden eye pencil on the inner rim, instead of a black one.

The second look is simpler, and more elongated.

1. Apply your burgundy base - which is once again Benefit's Stiletto here; 

2. Apply MAC's Trax eyeshadow all over the lid. Stop at the socket, and let the burgundy base be the darker color that frames your eyes; 

3. Apply a peachy shade with golden specks to the inner corner. The one I used was Chanel's Abstraction;

4. Coat on your lashes with your black mascara (the one I used wasn't really a great one);

5. Highlight your browbone very lightly, and repeat the color scheme on the lower lashline.

Again, try to use something different than black for your inner rim.

Gli ombretti color borgogna e cranberry tornano spesso di moda, soprattutto per la stagione autunnale, quando sembrano andar d'accordo con la natura che cambia intorno a noi. 

Nonostante siano dei colori splendidi, non sempre si portano facilmente. Qui sopra vi ho proposto due smoky eyes che si vi permettano di portare questi colori senza dover optare per il look goth, ossia senza doverli portare per forza con l'eyeliner nero. 

Nel primo ho applicato una base color borgogna (la Creaseless Cream in Stiletto di Benefit) su tutto l'occhio, andando a scurirla un po' nell'angolo esterno con un ombretto color prugna matte (Sketch di MAC). Ho poi applicato un ombretto madreperla per illuminare il centro della palpebra (ma questo step è opzionale, e guardandomi indietro forse anche inutile. Comunque ho usato Madreperla di Nabla). Dopodiché ho usato un color marrone caramello per sfumare il tutto dalla piega in su (io ho usato Vernau di Illamasqua). Per illuminare l'angolo interno ho usato un colore dorato, come Glitz di Nabla, evitando così i colori troppo chiari da bambola goth. Infine ho ripetuto lo stesso schema di colori sotto le ciglia inferiori e usato Sketch a mo' di eyeliner nell'angolo esterno superiore e inferiore dell'occhio. Per illuminare sotto l'arcata sopraccigliare ho invece utilizzato un color carne. Potete anche usare la vostra stessa cipria. 

Vi consiglio di utilizzare una matita dorata all'interno dell'occhio, di mettere tanto mascara e di cercare di dare una forma tonda a questo smoky. 

Il secondo look è invece più facile. La base è sempre la stessa. Sopra ci ho applicato Trax di MAC, facendo attenzione di non portarlo fino alla piega, e mantenendo invece il color borgogna come cornice dell'occhio. Ho poi applicato un ombretto color pesca con brillantini dorati nell'angolo interno (nel mio caso è Abstraction di Chanel), messo tanto mascara (anche se questo non è dei migliori) e poi illuminato sotto l'arcata sopraccigliare con lo stesso procedimento di prima. Questo look è invece un po' più allungato. Anche in questo caso non consiglio di mettere la matita nera.

Review: Organic Surge Skin Perfecting Face Polish

A few months ago, I was contacted by the lovely Laura over Organic Surge, to try two of their products. I fell in love with the one I will review in this post, and now I'm really curious to place an order and try some more things. 

Before I get on into the review, let me introduce you to the brand in short. 

Organic Surge is one of those brands which embraced the latest trends in cosmetic skincare: the usage of natural products. 100% free from harsh chemicals, not tested on animals, this British brand lavishes our skins with naturally-derived ingredients and deliciously smelling essential oils. So what makes it different from other eco-certified brands? Well, this one won't empty your pockets. And it will also donate part of the profits from any purchase to a charity that helps African children (Mercy Ships). I know it sounds cliché, but if we can do a good deed just by being our usual consumer-selves, why not doing it (for the most cynical ones, read "this so-called cliché will free you from buyer's remorse")? So, on to my new-found love: their Skin Perfecting Face Polish. If you are one of my oldest readers, you know that I am an avid consumer of facial scrubs because I've suffered from acne ever since the age of 21. Some of them have great exfoliating beads, but they tend to dry your skin out. Some are great, but might be too harsh on acne-prone, sensitive skins, eczema, etc. Before I'd tried this, my favorite exfoliator would undoutedly be the Liz Earle one (another great British brand!), but this is even more delicate! The beads are made of olive stone, and are sparse enough to be gentle, but also effective enough to remove impurities and dead cells. The rosemary and lemon essential oils purify the skin. Chamomile and Gingko Biloba soothe and reduce redness, while Almond oil rehydrates. 

You can definitely feel the almond oil here, because after you're done scrubbing all of that dirt away, your skin is radiant, supple, softer and smoother.

And another good news is that not only is this product conscious in formulation and ethics, but it is also pocket-friendly: it retails for € 8.95 for 75 ml. Great value for the money! 

I will place an order soon, and try some more of Organic Surge's products. If they're as nice as the Skin Perfecting Face Polish (a bit of a mouthfull, hey?!) French pharmacies will have a big rival.

Qualche mese fa sono stata contattata dalla gentilissima Laura di Organic Surge, per provare due loro prodotti, uno dei quali mi ha colpito così tanto che non solo è l'oggetto di questo post, ma mi ha fatta così tanto incuriosire verso questa marca, che sicuramente farò un ordine. 

Prima di passare alla vera e propria recensione, vi dirò qualche parolina su questa marca, soprattutto per coloro tra di voi che non sono solite leggere blog in inglese e che potrebbero non averla mai sentita nominare. 

La Organic Surge è una di quelle marche che hanno abbracciato uno dei più recenti trend della cosmesi della pelle: l'utilizzo di prodotti naturali. I prodotti di questo marchio sono privi di agenti chimici e non testati sugli animali, e coccolano la pelle con ingredienti naturali e olii essenziali sontuosi e profumati. Ma cosa rende Organic Surge diverso dagli altri marchi eco-cert in circolazione? Beh, sicuramente questo non vi svuoterà le tasche. Per di più, una parte degli incassi vengono regolarmente donati ad un organo di beneficienza a favore dei bambini africani (nel dettaglio, quest'associazione si chiama Mercy Ships). Tutto ciò può suonare alle vostre orecchie come un grosso cliché, ma il punto è che se possiamo fare qualcosa di buono compiendo comunque azioni consumistiche che compiamo ogni giorno, perché non farlo (per i più cinici, leggetelo come un "questo cosiddetto cliché vi libererà dal senso di colpa per aver speso soldi")? Ora, passiamo al sodo e al mio nuovo amore: lo Skin Perfecting Face Polish. Se fate parte dei miei lettori di lunga data, sapete già che sono un'appassionata consumatrice degli scrub per il viso perché ho sofferto di acne dall'età di 21 anni. Alcuni di questi scrub hanno delle particelle esfolianti fantastiche, ma tendono a seccare il viso. Altri sono davvero eccellenti, ma un po' troppo aggressivi per le pelli acneiche, con eczema, e in generale sensibili. Prima di provare questo il mio scrub preferito era senza dubbio quello di Liz Earle (un'altra eccellente marca al naturale britannica), ma questo è addirittura più delicato! I granuli esfolianti sono fatti di semi d'oliva e sono abbastanza sparsi da far sì che l'azione sia gentile e allo stesso tempo efficace nella rimozione di impurità e cellule morte. Gli olii essenziali di rosmarino e limone purificano la pelle. Camomilla e ginko calmano e riducono i rossori, mentre l'olio di mandorla reidrata. E proprio l'olio di mandorla è molto percettibile nella formulazione di questo esfoliante, perché noterete che dopo aver tolto via tutte quelle impurità e sporcizie, la pelle resta radiosa, rimpolpata, morbidissima.

Per coloro che se ne intendono più di me, o sono semplicemente curiose, alla fine del post in inglese (qui sopra) ho trascritto la lista degli ingredienti.

Come ho accennato prima, un'altra buona notizia sullo Skin Perfecting Face Polish è quella che riguarda il suo prezzo: € 8,95 per 75 ml. Non male davvero! 
Sicuramente farò presto un ordine e se gli altri prodotti della linea sono buoni quanto questo, le parafarmacie francesi avranno un gran rivale!

Review and swatches: Inglot AMC liquid face blush

Inglot says that

Vitamin E, peptides, special polyesters
with a unique silicone and gel base
allows this liquid blush to give a healthy
glow to the face, leaving all skin
types fresh and radiant.

I must admit that I couldn't agree more to this description. This liquid blush has enough silicones to smoothe out your pores, while its finish is satin and has just the right amount of mat and glow to leave your skin looking really healthy. "A flush of glow from within" is what best describes the effect of this blush on your cheeks.

As it was my first Inglot product, I chose a color that I thought would look good with any make-up and style. I was not mistaken: no. 18 is a neutral rosy shade that will warm up and lighten any skin tone.

You only need the smallest amount of product, because its pigmentation is very high. It melts with your skin immediately and lasts all day. All in all, it's an extremely good product for all skin types.

I remember paying it £ 12,00 at the Inglot store in Westfield London, but it should cost no more than its equivalent in euros in other countries (with the exception of Poland, Inglot's homeland, where the price tags are ridiculously cheaper).

My only gripe with it is the plastic cap that broke into my suitcase during one of my flights, resulting in product waste (and a hot mess in my beauty stash). Inglot should perhaps consider using a more sturdy cap for a product that is targeted mainly to make-up artists who travel the world.

L'AMC Liquid Face Blush di Inglot viene descritto come un cocktail di vitamina E, peptidi, e tante altre cose che non saprei nemmeno come pronunciare in italiano, il tutto condensato in una base di gel e siliconi che donano alla pelle un aspetto radioso. 

Devo dire che non posso che essere d'accordo. Questo blush liquido contiene abbastanza siliconi da lisciare i pori, mentre il suo finish satinato ha il giusto equilibrio tra opacità e luminosità, cosa che conferisce alla pelle un aspetto davvero sano. L'effetto che dona il blush liquido AMC è quello di un bel colore luminoso naturale, che sembra quasi essere merito della nostra natura. 

Visto che era il mio primo prodotto Inglot, ho scelto un colore che pensavo andasse bene con qualsiasi make-up e qualsiasi stile. Non mi sbagliavo: il numero 18 è un rosa naturale che scalda e illumina qualsiasi tono di pelle. 

Basta pochissimo prodotto; la sua pigmentazione è altissima. Si fonde con l'incarnato immediatamente e dura tutto il giorno. In generale, è un buonissimo prodotto per qualsiasi tipo di pelle.

Mi ricordo di averlo pagato £ 12,00 al negozio Inglot del centro commerciale Westfield London (fermate Shephard's Bush e White City con la Central Line della tube, o con i bus numero 31, 49, 207, 237, 260, 607 - state attente a non sbagliare centro ed andare a quello di Stratford!), ma non dovrebbe costare più del suo equivalente in euro in altre nazioni (fatta eccezione che per la Polonia, patria della marca, in cui i prezzi sono incredibilmente bassi).

L'unica nota negativa di questo prodotto è il tappo in plastica non troppo rigida che si rompe facilmente. A me si è rotto in una valigia e vi lascio immaginare quel che è successo. Penso che Inglot dovrebbe rivedere un po' questo dettaglio, magari utilizzando una plastica più resistente, visto e considerato che questo prodotto è rivolto ai truccatori che spesso viaggiano ovunque nel mondo.

Review: Nabla eyeshadows in Extravirgin, Glitz, Madreperla, Antique White, Tribeca, Aurum

Nabla is an all-Italian brand created by make-up artist Daniele Lorusso (MrDanielMakeup - if you are not Italian, and not familiar with him, then I suggest you check out his channel) and two other associates (a physician and an osteopath) whose policy comprises of freedom, innovation, fair prices, and cruelty free, highly performant products.

Their range is not huge for the moment, yet their products generated a lot of buzz in the beauty community, as the quality is unbelieveble for the price. 

I'd managed to refrain from placing an order until few weeks ago, when I caved in and took advantage of the sales on their eyeshadow range. 

I was impressed with their customer care: they packed my order in less then 24 hours, called me on the phone to make sure that my address was correct, dispatched the order in 24 hours using an express courrier. All in all, a very nice experience. 

The eyeshadows I bought are both from the permanent range, and from their latest collection, called Solaris. I bought six refill pans, and got an empty magnetic palette (which has much resemblance to a small Z-palette) as a gift.

Nel caso abbiate passato l'ultimo anno recluse in qualche posto sperduto del mondo e non ne abbiate mai sentito parlare, sappiate che il marchio che sto per illustrare ora - Nabla - è il marchio creato dal make-up artist Daniele Lorusso (MrDanielMakeup su Youtube) e altri due soci (un fisico e un osteopata) la cui filosofia spazia dalla libertà, all'innovazione, ai prezzi equi per dei prodotti cruelty free, ma altamente performanti allo stesso tempo.

La gamma proposta non è molto ampia per il momento, ma i loro prodotti hanno fatto generato tanto clamore nella comunità beauty, per via della qualità incredibile contro prezzi veramente accessibili.

Sono riuscita a trattenermi dal fare un ordine per tanto tempo, fino a qualche settimana fa, quando ho ceduto e sfruttato le riduzioni sugli ombretti.

Inizialmente sono rimasta molto colpita dal servizio clienti: hanno evaso il mio ordine in meno di 24 ore, mi hanno chiamata personalmente al cellulare per accertarsi che l'indirizzo fosse corretto, e poi hanno inviato l'ordine in 24 ore utilizzando un corriere espresso. In generale, un'esperienza molto piacevole.

Gli ombretti acquistati fanno parte sia della linea permanente, che della loro ultima collezione - la Solaris. Ho comprato sei refill e ho ricevuto la palettina magnetica (che sembra proprio una mini Z-palette) in omaggio.

Above is the palette I assembled, taken from different angles, in day light. The top row is made of Extravirgin, Glitz, and Madreperla. The bottom row includes Antique White, Tribeca, and Aurum. 

The texture of these eyeshadows are different, but all of them contain no silicones, no pegs, no petrolatum, nor edta's. Great, huh?!

The lasting power even without a primer underneath is impressive, especially for someone who has an oily lid like mine (due to my eyes being hooded). They are definitely MAC-comparable eyeshadows for a fraction of the price, which makes me very very happy. Only thing is, the pans are bigger so they will not fit into a MAC eyeshadow palette (which makes me very very sad). 

Quella che vedete sopra è la palette da me assemblata fotografata da diverse angolature, sotto luce naturale. Dall'alto troviamo Extravirgin, Glitz, e Madreperla, nella fila inferiore sono inclusi Antique White, Tribeca, Aurum.

La texture di questi ombretti è diversa, ma tutti sono privi di siliconi, peg, petrolati, edta. Stupendo, eh?!

La longevità è stupefacente, anche senza primer sotto, tantopiù per una persona che come me ha la palpebra oleosa (data dalla forma degli occhi). Sono degli ombretti comparabili a quelli MAC, ma che vengono venduti davvero ad un terzo del prezzo dei MAC, il che mi rende davvero molto felice. L'unica cosa è che le refill sono troppo grandi per stare in una palette MAC (il che mi rende davvero molto triste).

Nabla Antique White, Madreperla, Glitz, Aurum, Tribeca, Extravirgin

Antique White:

Soft mat texture, which is ideal for creating shades and blending out colors. This can be applied wet or dry, and it is an ivory white that has a slight beige/cream undertone. This eyeshadow can be used as a base all over your eye lid for a soft mat look, or above another color to help transitioning shades when blending. Currently, as I have a (very little for now) tan, I love this eyeshadow as a brow highlight. I find it to be perfect for people who have hooded eyes like me, as a shimmery color often makes the lid even more protruding.

Texture soft matte, ideale per creare ombreggiature o sfumature. Si può applicare asciutto o bagnato, ed è un color avorio con una punta di beige/crema. Quest'ombretto può essere usato come base su tutto l'occhio per un look soft mat, oppure sopra un altro colore per aiutare la transizione delle nuance mentre si sfuma. Attualmente, visto che ho un pochino di abbronzatura, mi piace come illuminante per l'arcata sopraccigliare. Trovo infatti che questo colore sia perfetto per le persone che hanno la palpebra "hooded" (eh sì, non so come si dica in italiano. Pardon me!) come me, perché i colori brillanti spesso tendono a dare l'illusione di una palpebra fissa ancora più protesa.

Madreperla (Solaris collection): 

As its name suggests it is a motherpearl-colored duocrome satin eyeshadow. It is listed as a "bright" textured eyeshadow on the site, which basically means that it contains light reflecting pearls that will add depht to your look. Once again, it can be applied wet or dry. I'm literally in love with its texture. I love the fact that it is a true satin eyeshadow, yet it can be duochromatic. I love its longevity on my lids: despite its natural formulation, it adheres very well onto my skin. The color is simply stunning: at first it is a bit reminscent of Patina by MAC, but it is a lighter beige, and its light-reflecting particles are pink and green-ish (as opposed to Patina, which has pink and golden particles). I love it as an all-over color, but it is a great highlight on the inner corner, as well a fun thing you can play with over another color or a dark cream base. If I had to define it in one word, I would say "sophisticated". 

Come suggerito dal nome, si tratta di un ombretto duochrome satinato di colorazione madreperlata. Sul sito è descritto come un "bright", che essenzialmente significa che contiene delle perle luce-riflettenti che amplificano la profondità dello sguardo. Ancora una volta, l'applicazione è possibile sia asciutta che bagnata. Io mi sono innamorata della sua texture: mi piace il fatto che sia un vero satin, ma che possa restare un duochrome. Mi piace la sua durata sulla palpebra: nonostante la sua formulazione naturale, aderisce perfettamente alla mia pelle. Il colore è semplicemente fantastico: all'inizio può ricordare Patina di MAC, ma è di un beige più chiaro e le particelle riflettenti sono rosa e verdi (al contrario di quelle di Patina, che sono rosa e dorate). Mi piace tantissimo come colore su tutta la palpebra, ma è un illuminante eccezionale per l'angolo interno, ed anche un ombretto con cui divertirsi a creare colori sopra altre tonalità o da stendere su una base scura e cremosa. Se dovessi scegliere una sola parola per definirlo, questa sarebbe sofisticata.

Glitz: 

Another "bright" eyeshadow which is a medium bronze, with brown and amber undertones. This is a great stand alone eyeshadow, as similarly to MAC's Woodwinked, it creates depth on its own. For that very reason, it is one of the most practical eyeshadows to use when you're in a rush. It looks exceptionally good paired with orange lips and cheeks, or a bright red or pink lipstick.

Tip: use it under your lower lash line when you look tired, it is an instant pick-me-up.

Un altro ombretto in texture "bright"; un bronzo medio con toni marroni e ambrati. E' perfetto usato anche da solo, perché in maniera molto simile a Woodwinked di MAC, crea profondità in maniera del tutto naturale e senza bisogno di altri colori. Per questa ragione si presta molto bene per un trucco veloce. E' davvero molto bello se portato con labbra e guance arancioni, oppure colori decisi come un rosso o un rosa acceso.

Consiglio: usatelo sotto le ciglia inferiori quando siete stanche, ravviva lo sguardo istantaneamente.

Aurum (Solaris collection): 

Bright. Cool toned gold, which appears to be very close to a green as the yellow component is barely there. It looks great with blue and purple-ish blue eyeshadows, and it is a great inner corner highlight if your make-up is colorful or daring, and can be really nice used under your lower lashline as well. Great if you pair it with Extravirgin from Nabla.

Bright. Oro dai toni freddi, che quasi ricordano molto più il verde, visto che è quasi privo della componente gialla. Sta benissimo accostato con ombretti blu o blu violacei, è un bellissimo ombretto da usare nell'angolo interno se si portano trucchi colorati o audaci, e si presta benissimo usato anche solo nella palpebra inferiore. Bellissimo da accostare a Extravirgin.

Tribeca (Solaris collection):

Yet, another bright. This one is a dark brown with pink and bronze reflexes. I have yet to try it properly for a deep smoky eyes or a more complex look, but I love how it looks like a deeper version of MAC Satin Taupe on the pan, but has nothing much to do with it. I loved how it looks with Madreperla, both as a liner and the darker color of a simple smoky eye look. 

Un altro bright. Questo è un marrone scuro con riflessi rosa e bronzo. Devo ancora provarlo per bene per uno smoky intenso o un look più complesso, ma mi piace che sembri una versione più marcata di Satin Taupe nella confezione, anche se in realtà ha poco a che fare con quest'ultimo. Mi è piaciuto tantissimo con Madreperla, sia come liner sia come colore scuro per uno smoky semplice. 

Extravirgin:

And yes, guess what? It's a bright texture! This is hands-down the perfect olive green eyeshadow. I didn't really think it would have suited me at all (most olive greens do not), instead its consistent golden undertones make it neutral and perfect for people who have blueish green eyes like me: it will definitely make your blue eyes pop. E indovinate? Sì, è un altro bright! Senza dubbio il verde oliva per eccellenza. Non pensavo mi potesse star bene (quasi nessun verde oliva mi sta bene), invece i suoi marcati sottotoni dorati fanno sì che sia un colore neutro e perfetto per quelle persone che hanno gli occhi blu verdi come me, perché fa risaltare la componente blu. Il paradigma della sensualità e del fascino.

So, if you made it through the end of this in-depth review, I really hope it has been helpfull. Overall, these eyeshadows are definitely MAC comparable, but for a fraction of the price. The color range is really nice and you can really see that a make-up artist worked on them. Nabla eyeshadows are only sold online through their website - nablacosmetics.com - and cost € 6,50 per refill. They grant international shipping as well.

Extravirgin, touched for the very first time

I know the reference to Madonna wasn't fun, but it sounds about right in this case. My first time with Extravirgin eyeshadow by Nabla (review of their eyeshadows coming soon, so stay tuned), and oh my!, it stole my heart.

Narsissist Cheek Kit by Nars: first impressions.

Two days ago, I ventured on the Sephora aisles with a friend. The idea was not buying anything, the result was my first Nars purchase ever.

As expensive as it is, I am very happy I bought the Narsissist Cheek Kit, as it was a limited edition and it is proving to be a great multi-purpose kit.

Basically, as its name suggests, it's a tiny cheek palette with a bronzer/contour powder, a blush, and a hightlighter. What's more, it comes with a travel size cheek brush, which is very soft and just the right size to pick up those three products.

Rapidly, this palette has become a staple in my daily routine.

Due giorni fa mi sono avventurata con un'amica per i vari stand di Sephora. L'idea era quella di non comprare nulla, il risultato (come potete ben immaginare) è stato il mio primo acquisto Nars.

Nonostante il costo piuttosto esoso, sono davvero contenta di aver comprato questo kit - Narsissist Cheek Kit, perché è un'edizione limitata, ma si sta rivelando un bel prodotto multi-funzione.

In pratica, come suggeritoci dal nome, è una mini-palette contenente un bronzer/terra contouring, blush, e illuminante. Inoltre, incluso nel set c'è anche un pennello guance, davvero molto morbido e della misura ideale per prelevare i tre prodotti.

Molto velocemente, questa palette sta diventando un must della mia routine quotidiana.

I don't know if you've recognized them all, but the kit includes some best sellers, namely Orgasm blush, and Laguna bronzer, and a limited edition highlighter called Devotee. 

Some bloggers complained about this choice, stating that Nars put Laguna and Orgasm in every kit. However, it was a good thing for me, and for all the Nars newbies out there. You have the chance to try three products for the price of one full size blush, and seeing how the hype around the bronzer and the blush always enables compulsive buys, you can get a good deal. 

Non so se li avete riconosciuti, ma nel kit sono inclusi dei best-seller, come il blush Orgasm e il bronzer Laguna, più un illuminante in edizione limitata: Devotee.

Alcune blogger si sono lamentate di questa scelta, affermando che Nars mette Laguna e Orgasm in ogni kit. Tuttavia questa è stata una buona cosa per me e per tutte le neofite di Nars. D'altronde si ha la possibilità di provare tre prodotti al prezzo di un blush, e viste tutte le lodi su questo bronzer e su questo blush ci fanno sempre desiderare l'acquisto compulsivo, è un buon modo di fare un mezzo affare.

Laguna Bronzer - looks darker in reality

As you can see, you have everything you need to create a perfect base. Laguna has the most subtle sheen (it's almost mat, in fact) and is not as orange as many bronzers, therefore you can easily use it as both a bronzer and contouring powder. Orgasm is just one of the prettiest blushes I have ever seen. A tad darker than Stereo Rose by MAC, and a little warmer maybe, but it is a great coral with golden flecks in it. The downside is that it accentuates pores a little bit (or maybe my skin is just acting up). Devotee is a pink-beige highlighter which gaves you a wonder glow.

Laguna and Devotee can also be used as eyeshadows to create a very soft, yet effective (thanks to Devotee in the inner corner) everyday look. Paired with either Blacktrack fluidline, or a golden brown eye pencil (something like MAC Powersurge, maybe?), this will be very sophisticated.

This makes the kit a great choice for travelling on weekends. All you need then, would be a choice of colored lipsticks and you will go from day to night without any effort.

Come potete vedere, avete di tutto per creare una base perfetta. Laguna ha davvero una luminosità appena accentuata (è quasi opaco, infatti) e non è arancione come tanti altri bronzer, il che lo rende adatto ad essere utilizzato sia come bronzer che come terra da contouring (ovviamente non so se sarà così d'estate perché mi abbronzo molto). Orgasm è uno dei più bei blush che io abbia mai visto. E' un po' più scuro del mio amato Stereo Rose di MAC, e forse anche un tantino più caldo, ma ad ogni modo è un bellissimo corallo con particelle dorate. La nota negativa può essere il fatto che accentui un tantino i pori (o forse la mia pelle sta facendo la cattiva). Devotee è un illuminante rosa-beige che conferisce una meravigliosa luminosità.

Laguna e Devotee possono essere anche usati come ombretti per creare un look quotidiano molto discreto, ma efficace (grazie a Devotee nell'angolo interno), Insieme al fluidline Blacktrack, o una matita dorata/marrone, può davvero essere sofisticato.
E' proprio ciò che rende il kit una bellissima scelta per i viaggi del fine settimana. A quel punto, avete bisogno solo di portar con voi un po' di rossetti colorati e potete creare dei look da giorno e da sera senza il minimo sforzo.

 I'll tell you my two cents about the Nars powders: to the touch they are not buttery soft, yet the pigmentation is very good and also buildable. The fact that they are not too soft in consistency, allows for less fallout. You will see that some powder will deposit on the packaging, but it won't be too much, and it'll allow you to see how finely these powders were milled before they got pressed. I yet have to taste their longevity with different products. They aren't as longlasting as my Illamasqua blushes on the Bourjois CC cream, but I'll report back. I will enclose swatches as soon as the weather allows me to take good shots. 

Overall, I think this was a very good purchase for 39 euros, which isn't your typical "deal" budget (and neither is mine), but I'm convinced it will be an yearly investment, rather than a 20 euros purchase each month because you grew tired of a mediocre-quality product.

Vi dico un po' la mia opinione sulle polveri Nars: non sono super vellutate al tatto, tuttavia hanno una buona pigmentazione e sono modulabili. Il fatto che non siano troppo morbide di consistenza, fa sì che le polveri volino meno. Vedrete un po' di polvere depositarsi sulla confezione, ma non sarà molto, e vi permetterà di vedere quanto fossero fini prima di essere pressate. Ancora devo testare per bene la durata con diversi prodotti. Per ora posso dire che non sono longeve come i miei blush Illamasqua sulla CC di Bourjois, ma vi dirò di più in futuro. Vi farò anche gli swatches non appena il tempo lo permetta. 

In generale, penso sia un buon acquisto per 39 euro, che apparentemente non è il tipico budget da affarone, ma son convinta sia un investimento annuale, piuttosto che 20 euro mensili per un prodotto di qualità mediocre che vi stufa.

Collective French haul and first impressions

Over these five months I've been living in France, I have not just worked, eaten exquisite food, and drunk some lovely wine (and ridiculously expensive beer). I've also managed to succumb and buy some make-up and skincare products that I had no access to in Italy. 

I was mostly fascinated with the world-class drugstore make-up brand Bourjois (apparently, Chanel's little cousin), especially for their base make-up offerings. Also, I was very happy to find great skincare for all skin types that are easily accessible in the numerous parapharmacies across town. Last, but not least, it's been great to have two Sephora stores where I live, which lead me to make my first ever Nars purchase. 

Here is what I've got so far: 

In questi cinque mesi di vita francese, non mi sono solo dedicata al lavoro, alle scofanate squisitezze culinarie, e al buon vino (e anche alla birra a prezzi improponibili). Sono anche riuscita a soccombere alla tentazione e dedicarmi agli acquisti frivoli sia di make-up che di skincare, soprattutto di tutti quei prodotti ai quali stando in Italia non avevo accesso. 

Sono stata più che altro catturata dalla celebre Bourjois, marca di punta francese (che a quanto pare è la cuginetta di Chanel) per quanto riguarda i prodotti di grande distribuzione, in particolar modo dalla loro ampia gamma di prodotti per la base. Inoltre, sono stata ben felice di scoprire tutti quei bellissimi prodotti per la cura di qualsiasi tipo di pelle, facilmente reperibili nelle numerose parafarmacie della città. 

Ultimo, ma non meno importante, il fatto di avere ben due Sephora in città, mi ha portata a commettere un grande crimine contro il portafogli e fare il mio primo acquisto Nars. 

Ecco cos'ho accumulato in questi mesi:

 Bioderma Sébium Global moisturizer for acne-prone skins. Still testing this, but it looks like a good product. It is mattifying, and seems to be working well. I also like the travel-friendly packaging. Oh, and its price too - it's moderate.

Bioderma Sébium Global crema per pelli a tendenza acneica. La sto ancora provando, ma sembra un buon prodotto. Opacizza e sembra funzionare bene. Mi piace anche la confezione che non occupa molto spazio. Ah, e il prezzo - moderato.

Bourjois: random discontinued nail polishes, random discontinued lipsticks, Effet 3D Max lipgloss,  123 Perfect CC cream. The nail polishes are meh. They absolutely do not last 10 days. Glad they only cost me 2 euros. The lipsticks are overall nice, but some of the cheapest KIKO lipsticks would perform the same way - although the packaging is so chic, and one of the colors I got will be awesome for spring (if it ever comes here) and summer. The lip gloss is quite amazing. It smoothes out your lips surface and shines a whole lot without being overly sticky. I am not sure they still sell it, because I got all of these products at an outlet. The CC cream is very, very good. Expect a full review on it soon. 

Bourjois: smalti e rossetti vari usciti fuori produzione, gloss Effet 3D Max, CC cream 123 Perfect. Gli smalti sono mediocri. Non durano assolutamente 10 giorni. Per fortuna li ho pagati 2 euro. I rossetti nel complesso sono molto carini, ma i meno costosi da KIKO sono più o meno uguali - anche se il packaging è così chic, che me ne sono innamorata, e per di più uno dei due colori che ho preso sarà fichissimo in primavera (sempre che qui arrivi) ed estate. Il gloss è veramente favoloso. Liscia la superficie delle labbra ed ha un bell'effetto vinile senza essere troppo appiccicoso. Non sono sicura che lo vendano ancora, perché tutti questi prodotti li ho comprati in un outlet. La CC cream è davvero molto buona. Ne farò presto una recensione completa.

 

Erborian Gingseng BB Cream. I bought the travel size because the full size is freaking  way too expensive, and a little goes a long way anyway. I tried this last year (thank you, Sephora girls in Nancy, for providing samples) and I loved it. It lasted a lot under the extreme weather conditions of summer in Sardinia, and I was also happy with the coverage. If you scroll down my Instagram feed, you'll find a picture of me wearing it. It speaks for itself, I think. 

Erborian BB Cream al Gingseng. Ho comprato il mini-formato, perché quello grande è veramente troppo caro, e ad ogni modo ne basta veramente poca. La provai lo scorso anno (grazie, commesse di Sephora, per i campioncini) e la adorai. Resistette davvero bene anche alle condizioni meteo a dir poco estreme dell'estate in Sardegna, ed inoltre rimasi soddisfatta della coprenza. Se vi va, potete fare un giro tra le mie foto di Instagram e lì vedrete una foto in cui la porto, che credo parli da sola.

Gosh Brow Kit. This one product deserves a full review. Great value for the money. Contains three different powders, and a brow wax. If you are a brow fiend, then you need this in your life. 

Gosh Brow Kit. Anche questo prodotto merita una recensione tutta per sé. Buon rapporto qualità/prezzo. Contiene tre diverse polveri e una cera. Se siete ossessionate dalle sopracciglia, non può mancare nel vostro beauty.

Narsissist Cheek Kit. Expensive, but a great purchase nevertheless. It comes with a travel size brush, which is not bad at all. I am going to post a separate "first impressions" article on it, because it was limited edition, and if you can still find it, I suggest you get it immediately.

Review: Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation

I find the foundations range from Bourjois to be one of the best offerings on market in terms of quality and price: it caters every skin type, every preference in terms of texture; I find the products to be better than some of their high end rivals, and the price is always very reasonable. 

One of their best foundations for my skin type (acne-prone, with red patches on the cheeks area, tends to shine a little on the t-zone) is definitely the 123 Perfect. This is a fluid foundation that claims to have three pigments in it: yellow, to counteract dark circles; mauve, to counteract dullness; green, to counteract redness. Although I cannot comment on the yellow pigments because I prefer to use my concealer on dark circles, I can pretty much say that the other two pigments work very well.

Its finish is mat, with a good lasting power throughout the day (for combination skins - oily skins may need to powder this foundation too) and no need to powder it (I hardly ever do so). 

123 Perfect by Bourjois is also a medium coverage foundation that doesn't look cakey, and acts as a great base for both powders and creams. 

Their shade range is also excellent. There are a lot of beige colors, which is always the most difficult shade to find in drugstore foundations. Light olive to olive skin colored gals like me should be able to find a color that suit them. 

123 Perfect foundation by Bourjois in 54 - consistency is fluid, a bit runny.

This foundation, like most Bourjois foundations, retails for around € 15,00 in drugstores and some department stores (namely Printemps) in France; drugstores and pharmacies in the UK; on ASOS, and on the Bourjois official website (if you live in France, Belgium, or French territories. No international shipping, unfortunately).

Personalmente trovo che i fondotinta Bourjois siano una delle migliori offerte che si possano trovare in circolazione per questo tipo di prodotto: la marca accontenta tutte le necessità, tutte le preferenze in termini di texture e trovo che i loro fondotinta siano migliori dei loro rivali di tante marche blasonate, per altro ad un prezzo sempre ragionevole. 

Uno dei loro fondotinta meglio riusciti per il mio tipo di pelle (a tendenza acneica, con rossori a livello delle guance e che tende a lucidarsi un po' nella zona T) è sicuramente l'123 Perfect. Questo è un fondotinta fluido che a quanto pare contiene tre pigmenti: uno giallo, per camufflare le occhiaie; uno malva, per combattere i segni della stanchezza; uno verde, per coprire i rossori. Nonostante non possa commentare riguardo al pigmento giallo, perché preferisco usare del correttore sulle occhiaie, devo dire che gli altri due pigmenti fanno un buon lavoro.

Il finish è mat, con una buona durata nell'arco della giornata (per le pelli miste - le pelli grasse dovranno forse stendere della cipria) senza bisogno della cipria (io la uso raramente). 

123 Perfect di Bourjois è anche un fondotinta dalla coprenza media, che non fa l'effetto mascherone, e agisce da base ideale sia per le polveri che per le creme. 

Anche la gamma dei colori è eccellente. Ci sono tanti beige, che è una delle cose più difficili da trovare nei fondotinta di grande distribuzione. Le ragazze dalla carnagione olivastra chiara e olivastra dovrebbero riuscire a trovare un colore adatto a loro. 

Questo fondontinta, come la maggior parte dei fondi Bourjois, ha un prezzo di € 15 circa ed è reperibile nei supermercati e alcuni grandi magazzini (notamente, Printemps) in Francia; supermercati e farmacie in UK, su ASOS, e sul sito ufficiale Bourjois (se abitate in Francia, Belgio, o territori francesi. Non fanno, purtroppo, spedizioni internazionali).

Review: MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

Being the girl with super high cheek bones that I am, I always have a problem with fine lines under my eyes, hence with under-eye concealers. 

That little problem is called fine lines. Yes, I want to blame that problem to my facial bones structure rather than to the fact that I turned 30 this year, but I think it is the truth - given that I've had the same problem in ages, and I had always had a love/hate relationship with concealers before I met MAC Pro Longwear. See, I need to conceal those dark circles that glasses adorn my eyes with, but everything I had tried before this particular concealer - no matter how good and long-lasting it was - has always left me looking like Mr. De Martino from Daria in 4 or 5 hours tops.

Remember him? The series was hilarious.

Last year, I gave in and bought the famous MAC Pro Longwear concealer (my shade is NC30) and I have never used anything else ever since.

This concealer covers darks circles, discolorations, spots (and it is a liquid concealer so it does not cake up on big spots) with a longwearing and flawless finish. I would also say it looks as natural as it gets for a high-coverage concealer.

It lasts at least 12 hours and does not fill into your fine lines at all. It is an awesome time, and I had never come across something like this before.

It is very easy to apply and blend, although it is a bit drying so if you have dry skin already, try and put some highlighting concealer thing-y over it. 

My only gripe with this fantastic product is its packaging: it comes in a glass tube (Nay! Not good for the clumpsy-handed gals!) with an evil pump. The damn thing is so hard you push it too much and it goes out of control, dispensing way too much product (enough to cover your whole face!). Considering that you really need a teeny-tiny bit of product to cover your circles, this is hell. 

Apart from this detail that I hope MAC will take into consideration (I am not the only one who complains about it), I love this concealer and I will not use anything else anymore. In the picture below, you see how much is left after over 1 year of religious usage, so it definitely is worth the splurge!

Da ragazza con gli zigomi alti quale sono, ho da sempre il problema delle rughette di espressione sotto gli occhi, e di conseguenza ho problemi anche a trovare il giusto correttore copriocchiaie. 

Chiaramente voglio attribuire questo problema alla struttura del mio viso, e non al fatto che quest'anno abbia compiuto 30 anni (inserisci qui lacrimucce varie). Penso, però, che sia la verità visto che questo problema l'ho da sempre e da sempre ho una relazione di amore e odio con i correttori. Questo prima di incontrare il MAC Pro Longwear. In effetti ho bisogno di coprire le occhiaie con le quali i miei occhiali da vista adornano i miei occhietti, ma tutti i prodotti che ho provato prima di questo particolare correttore, non importa quanto buoni o duraturi fossero, mi facevano sembrare il Prof. De Martino di Daria (lo trovate nella prima foto, ve lo ricordate?) in 4 o 5 ore massimo. 

L'anno scorso ho ceduto ed ho comprato il famoso correttore MAC Pro Longwear (il mio colore è NC30) e da allora non ho più usato nient'altro. 

Questo correttore copre le occhiaie, discromie varie e brufoli (e visto che è liquido non fa pastoni sui brufoloni cistosi e dell'acne), dura tantissimo e ha un finish perfetto. Direi anche che è quanto di più naturale si possa ottenere con un correttore così coprente. 

Dura almeno 12 ore e non si infila per niente nelle rughette e nelle linee di espressione. E' davvero tantissimo e non avevo mai trovato niente di simile prima d'ora. 

Si applica e si sfuma molto bene, anche se secca un po' perciò se avete la pelle già secca, provate a mettere uno di quei correttori illuminanti sopra. 

L'unico rimprovero che faccio a questo prodotto fantastico è la confezione, che si presenta come una boccetta di plastica (non adatta alle persone maldestre) con un erogatore a dir poco demoniaco. Quell'affare è durissimo e si finisce sempre per premere troppo e perderne il controllo, facendo uscire davvero troppo prodotto (abbastanza per applicarlo sull'intero viso). 

Considerando che ne occorre davvero una quantità minuscola per coprire le occhiaie, è una nota davvero negativa.

 A parte questo dettaglio che spero MAC prenda in considerazione (visto che non sono l'unica persona che se ne lamenta), adoro questo correttore e ormai uso e userò soltanto lui. Nella foto più in alto, potete vedere quanto ne rimanga dopo 1 anno di uso quotidiano, dunque credo che sia decisamente un prodotto sul quale valga la pena investire.

Il correttore Pro Longwear di MAC costa € 19.10 (in Italia, ma i prezzi variano a seconda dei Paesi) in tutti i negozi e counter MAC delle vostre città o sul sito MAC cosmetics. 

 [giusto per farsi due conti, un correttore L'Oréal costa € 11, dunque se fate due calcoli conviene il MAC]
