Narsissist Cheek Kit by Nars: first impressions.

Two days ago, I ventured on the Sephora aisles with a friend. The idea was not buying anything, the result was my first Nars purchase ever.

As expensive as it is, I am very happy I bought the Narsissist Cheek Kit, as it was a limited edition and it is proving to be a great multi-purpose kit.

Basically, as its name suggests, it's a tiny cheek palette with a bronzer/contour powder, a blush, and a hightlighter. What's more, it comes with a travel size cheek brush, which is very soft and just the right size to pick up those three products.

Rapidly, this palette has become a staple in my daily routine.

Due giorni fa mi sono avventurata con un'amica per i vari stand di Sephora. L'idea era quella di non comprare nulla, il risultato (come potete ben immaginare) è stato il mio primo acquisto Nars.

Nonostante il costo piuttosto esoso, sono davvero contenta di aver comprato questo kit - Narsissist Cheek Kit, perché è un'edizione limitata, ma si sta rivelando un bel prodotto multi-funzione.

In pratica, come suggeritoci dal nome, è una mini-palette contenente un bronzer/terra contouring, blush, e illuminante. Inoltre, incluso nel set c'è anche un pennello guance, davvero molto morbido e della misura ideale per prelevare i tre prodotti.

Molto velocemente, questa palette sta diventando un must della mia routine quotidiana.

I don't know if you've recognized them all, but the kit includes some best sellers, namely Orgasm blush, and Laguna bronzer, and a limited edition highlighter called Devotee. 

Some bloggers complained about this choice, stating that Nars put Laguna and Orgasm in every kit. However, it was a good thing for me, and for all the Nars newbies out there. You have the chance to try three products for the price of one full size blush, and seeing how the hype around the bronzer and the blush always enables compulsive buys, you can get a good deal. 

Non so se li avete riconosciuti, ma nel kit sono inclusi dei best-seller, come il blush Orgasm e il bronzer Laguna, più un illuminante in edizione limitata: Devotee.

Alcune blogger si sono lamentate di questa scelta, affermando che Nars mette Laguna e Orgasm in ogni kit. Tuttavia questa è stata una buona cosa per me e per tutte le neofite di Nars. D'altronde si ha la possibilità di provare tre prodotti al prezzo di un blush, e viste tutte le lodi su questo bronzer e su questo blush ci fanno sempre desiderare l'acquisto compulsivo, è un buon modo di fare un mezzo affare.

Laguna Bronzer - looks darker in reality

As you can see, you have everything you need to create a perfect base. Laguna has the most subtle sheen (it's almost mat, in fact) and is not as orange as many bronzers, therefore you can easily use it as both a bronzer and contouring powder. Orgasm is just one of the prettiest blushes I have ever seen. A tad darker than Stereo Rose by MAC, and a little warmer maybe, but it is a great coral with golden flecks in it. The downside is that it accentuates pores a little bit (or maybe my skin is just acting up). Devotee is a pink-beige highlighter which gaves you a wonder glow.

Laguna and Devotee can also be used as eyeshadows to create a very soft, yet effective (thanks to Devotee in the inner corner) everyday look. Paired with either Blacktrack fluidline, or a golden brown eye pencil (something like MAC Powersurge, maybe?), this will be very sophisticated.

This makes the kit a great choice for travelling on weekends. All you need then, would be a choice of colored lipsticks and you will go from day to night without any effort.

Come potete vedere, avete di tutto per creare una base perfetta. Laguna ha davvero una luminosità appena accentuata (è quasi opaco, infatti) e non è arancione come tanti altri bronzer, il che lo rende adatto ad essere utilizzato sia come bronzer che come terra da contouring (ovviamente non so se sarà così d'estate perché mi abbronzo molto). Orgasm è uno dei più bei blush che io abbia mai visto. E' un po' più scuro del mio amato Stereo Rose di MAC, e forse anche un tantino più caldo, ma ad ogni modo è un bellissimo corallo con particelle dorate. La nota negativa può essere il fatto che accentui un tantino i pori (o forse la mia pelle sta facendo la cattiva). Devotee è un illuminante rosa-beige che conferisce una meravigliosa luminosità.

Laguna e Devotee possono essere anche usati come ombretti per creare un look quotidiano molto discreto, ma efficace (grazie a Devotee nell'angolo interno), Insieme al fluidline Blacktrack, o una matita dorata/marrone, può davvero essere sofisticato.
E' proprio ciò che rende il kit una bellissima scelta per i viaggi del fine settimana. A quel punto, avete bisogno solo di portar con voi un po' di rossetti colorati e potete creare dei look da giorno e da sera senza il minimo sforzo.

 I'll tell you my two cents about the Nars powders: to the touch they are not buttery soft, yet the pigmentation is very good and also buildable. The fact that they are not too soft in consistency, allows for less fallout. You will see that some powder will deposit on the packaging, but it won't be too much, and it'll allow you to see how finely these powders were milled before they got pressed. I yet have to taste their longevity with different products. They aren't as longlasting as my Illamasqua blushes on the Bourjois CC cream, but I'll report back. I will enclose swatches as soon as the weather allows me to take good shots. 

Overall, I think this was a very good purchase for 39 euros, which isn't your typical "deal" budget (and neither is mine), but I'm convinced it will be an yearly investment, rather than a 20 euros purchase each month because you grew tired of a mediocre-quality product.

Vi dico un po' la mia opinione sulle polveri Nars: non sono super vellutate al tatto, tuttavia hanno una buona pigmentazione e sono modulabili. Il fatto che non siano troppo morbide di consistenza, fa sì che le polveri volino meno. Vedrete un po' di polvere depositarsi sulla confezione, ma non sarà molto, e vi permetterà di vedere quanto fossero fini prima di essere pressate. Ancora devo testare per bene la durata con diversi prodotti. Per ora posso dire che non sono longeve come i miei blush Illamasqua sulla CC di Bourjois, ma vi dirò di più in futuro. Vi farò anche gli swatches non appena il tempo lo permetta. 

In generale, penso sia un buon acquisto per 39 euro, che apparentemente non è il tipico budget da affarone, ma son convinta sia un investimento annuale, piuttosto che 20 euro mensili per un prodotto di qualità mediocre che vi stufa.

Collective French haul and first impressions

Over these five months I've been living in France, I have not just worked, eaten exquisite food, and drunk some lovely wine (and ridiculously expensive beer). I've also managed to succumb and buy some make-up and skincare products that I had no access to in Italy. 

I was mostly fascinated with the world-class drugstore make-up brand Bourjois (apparently, Chanel's little cousin), especially for their base make-up offerings. Also, I was very happy to find great skincare for all skin types that are easily accessible in the numerous parapharmacies across town. Last, but not least, it's been great to have two Sephora stores where I live, which lead me to make my first ever Nars purchase. 

Here is what I've got so far: 

In questi cinque mesi di vita francese, non mi sono solo dedicata al lavoro, alle scofanate squisitezze culinarie, e al buon vino (e anche alla birra a prezzi improponibili). Sono anche riuscita a soccombere alla tentazione e dedicarmi agli acquisti frivoli sia di make-up che di skincare, soprattutto di tutti quei prodotti ai quali stando in Italia non avevo accesso. 

Sono stata più che altro catturata dalla celebre Bourjois, marca di punta francese (che a quanto pare è la cuginetta di Chanel) per quanto riguarda i prodotti di grande distribuzione, in particolar modo dalla loro ampia gamma di prodotti per la base. Inoltre, sono stata ben felice di scoprire tutti quei bellissimi prodotti per la cura di qualsiasi tipo di pelle, facilmente reperibili nelle numerose parafarmacie della città. 

Ultimo, ma non meno importante, il fatto di avere ben due Sephora in città, mi ha portata a commettere un grande crimine contro il portafogli e fare il mio primo acquisto Nars. 

Ecco cos'ho accumulato in questi mesi:

 Bioderma Sébium Global moisturizer for acne-prone skins. Still testing this, but it looks like a good product. It is mattifying, and seems to be working well. I also like the travel-friendly packaging. Oh, and its price too - it's moderate.

Bioderma Sébium Global crema per pelli a tendenza acneica. La sto ancora provando, ma sembra un buon prodotto. Opacizza e sembra funzionare bene. Mi piace anche la confezione che non occupa molto spazio. Ah, e il prezzo - moderato.

Bourjois: random discontinued nail polishes, random discontinued lipsticks, Effet 3D Max lipgloss,  123 Perfect CC cream. The nail polishes are meh. They absolutely do not last 10 days. Glad they only cost me 2 euros. The lipsticks are overall nice, but some of the cheapest KIKO lipsticks would perform the same way - although the packaging is so chic, and one of the colors I got will be awesome for spring (if it ever comes here) and summer. The lip gloss is quite amazing. It smoothes out your lips surface and shines a whole lot without being overly sticky. I am not sure they still sell it, because I got all of these products at an outlet. The CC cream is very, very good. Expect a full review on it soon. 

Bourjois: smalti e rossetti vari usciti fuori produzione, gloss Effet 3D Max, CC cream 123 Perfect. Gli smalti sono mediocri. Non durano assolutamente 10 giorni. Per fortuna li ho pagati 2 euro. I rossetti nel complesso sono molto carini, ma i meno costosi da KIKO sono più o meno uguali - anche se il packaging è così chic, che me ne sono innamorata, e per di più uno dei due colori che ho preso sarà fichissimo in primavera (sempre che qui arrivi) ed estate. Il gloss è veramente favoloso. Liscia la superficie delle labbra ed ha un bell'effetto vinile senza essere troppo appiccicoso. Non sono sicura che lo vendano ancora, perché tutti questi prodotti li ho comprati in un outlet. La CC cream è davvero molto buona. Ne farò presto una recensione completa.

 

Erborian Gingseng BB Cream. I bought the travel size because the full size is freaking  way too expensive, and a little goes a long way anyway. I tried this last year (thank you, Sephora girls in Nancy, for providing samples) and I loved it. It lasted a lot under the extreme weather conditions of summer in Sardinia, and I was also happy with the coverage. If you scroll down my Instagram feed, you'll find a picture of me wearing it. It speaks for itself, I think. 

Erborian BB Cream al Gingseng. Ho comprato il mini-formato, perché quello grande è veramente troppo caro, e ad ogni modo ne basta veramente poca. La provai lo scorso anno (grazie, commesse di Sephora, per i campioncini) e la adorai. Resistette davvero bene anche alle condizioni meteo a dir poco estreme dell'estate in Sardegna, ed inoltre rimasi soddisfatta della coprenza. Se vi va, potete fare un giro tra le mie foto di Instagram e lì vedrete una foto in cui la porto, che credo parli da sola.

Gosh Brow Kit. This one product deserves a full review. Great value for the money. Contains three different powders, and a brow wax. If you are a brow fiend, then you need this in your life. 

Gosh Brow Kit. Anche questo prodotto merita una recensione tutta per sé. Buon rapporto qualità/prezzo. Contiene tre diverse polveri e una cera. Se siete ossessionate dalle sopracciglia, non può mancare nel vostro beauty.

Narsissist Cheek Kit. Expensive, but a great purchase nevertheless. It comes with a travel size brush, which is not bad at all. I am going to post a separate "first impressions" article on it, because it was limited edition, and if you can still find it, I suggest you get it immediately.

Review: Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation

I find the foundations range from Bourjois to be one of the best offerings on market in terms of quality and price: it caters every skin type, every preference in terms of texture; I find the products to be better than some of their high end rivals, and the price is always very reasonable. 

One of their best foundations for my skin type (acne-prone, with red patches on the cheeks area, tends to shine a little on the t-zone) is definitely the 123 Perfect. This is a fluid foundation that claims to have three pigments in it: yellow, to counteract dark circles; mauve, to counteract dullness; green, to counteract redness. Although I cannot comment on the yellow pigments because I prefer to use my concealer on dark circles, I can pretty much say that the other two pigments work very well.

Its finish is mat, with a good lasting power throughout the day (for combination skins - oily skins may need to powder this foundation too) and no need to powder it (I hardly ever do so). 

123 Perfect by Bourjois is also a medium coverage foundation that doesn't look cakey, and acts as a great base for both powders and creams. 

Their shade range is also excellent. There are a lot of beige colors, which is always the most difficult shade to find in drugstore foundations. Light olive to olive skin colored gals like me should be able to find a color that suit them. 

123 Perfect foundation by Bourjois in 54 - consistency is fluid, a bit runny.

This foundation, like most Bourjois foundations, retails for around € 15,00 in drugstores and some department stores (namely Printemps) in France; drugstores and pharmacies in the UK; on ASOS, and on the Bourjois official website (if you live in France, Belgium, or French territories. No international shipping, unfortunately).

Personalmente trovo che i fondotinta Bourjois siano una delle migliori offerte che si possano trovare in circolazione per questo tipo di prodotto: la marca accontenta tutte le necessità, tutte le preferenze in termini di texture e trovo che i loro fondotinta siano migliori dei loro rivali di tante marche blasonate, per altro ad un prezzo sempre ragionevole. 

Uno dei loro fondotinta meglio riusciti per il mio tipo di pelle (a tendenza acneica, con rossori a livello delle guance e che tende a lucidarsi un po' nella zona T) è sicuramente l'123 Perfect. Questo è un fondotinta fluido che a quanto pare contiene tre pigmenti: uno giallo, per camufflare le occhiaie; uno malva, per combattere i segni della stanchezza; uno verde, per coprire i rossori. Nonostante non possa commentare riguardo al pigmento giallo, perché preferisco usare del correttore sulle occhiaie, devo dire che gli altri due pigmenti fanno un buon lavoro.

Il finish è mat, con una buona durata nell'arco della giornata (per le pelli miste - le pelli grasse dovranno forse stendere della cipria) senza bisogno della cipria (io la uso raramente). 

123 Perfect di Bourjois è anche un fondotinta dalla coprenza media, che non fa l'effetto mascherone, e agisce da base ideale sia per le polveri che per le creme. 

Anche la gamma dei colori è eccellente. Ci sono tanti beige, che è una delle cose più difficili da trovare nei fondotinta di grande distribuzione. Le ragazze dalla carnagione olivastra chiara e olivastra dovrebbero riuscire a trovare un colore adatto a loro. 

Questo fondontinta, come la maggior parte dei fondi Bourjois, ha un prezzo di € 15 circa ed è reperibile nei supermercati e alcuni grandi magazzini (notamente, Printemps) in Francia; supermercati e farmacie in UK, su ASOS, e sul sito ufficiale Bourjois (se abitate in Francia, Belgio, o territori francesi. Non fanno, purtroppo, spedizioni internazionali).

Review: MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

Being the girl with super high cheek bones that I am, I always have a problem with fine lines under my eyes, hence with under-eye concealers. 

That little problem is called fine lines. Yes, I want to blame that problem to my facial bones structure rather than to the fact that I turned 30 this year, but I think it is the truth - given that I've had the same problem in ages, and I had always had a love/hate relationship with concealers before I met MAC Pro Longwear. See, I need to conceal those dark circles that glasses adorn my eyes with, but everything I had tried before this particular concealer - no matter how good and long-lasting it was - has always left me looking like Mr. De Martino from Daria in 4 or 5 hours tops.

Remember him? The series was hilarious.

Last year, I gave in and bought the famous MAC Pro Longwear concealer (my shade is NC30) and I have never used anything else ever since.

This concealer covers darks circles, discolorations, spots (and it is a liquid concealer so it does not cake up on big spots) with a longwearing and flawless finish. I would also say it looks as natural as it gets for a high-coverage concealer.

It lasts at least 12 hours and does not fill into your fine lines at all. It is an awesome time, and I had never come across something like this before.

It is very easy to apply and blend, although it is a bit drying so if you have dry skin already, try and put some highlighting concealer thing-y over it. 

My only gripe with this fantastic product is its packaging: it comes in a glass tube (Nay! Not good for the clumpsy-handed gals!) with an evil pump. The damn thing is so hard you push it too much and it goes out of control, dispensing way too much product (enough to cover your whole face!). Considering that you really need a teeny-tiny bit of product to cover your circles, this is hell. 

Apart from this detail that I hope MAC will take into consideration (I am not the only one who complains about it), I love this concealer and I will not use anything else anymore. In the picture below, you see how much is left after over 1 year of religious usage, so it definitely is worth the splurge!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer retails for € 18.50 (in France - mind you, prices vary depending on the country) on MAC counters or your country's MAC cosmetics website.

Da ragazza con gli zigomi alti quale sono, ho da sempre il problema delle rughette di espressione sotto gli occhi, e di conseguenza ho problemi anche a trovare il giusto correttore copriocchiaie. 

Chiaramente voglio attribuire questo problema alla struttura del mio viso, e non al fatto che quest'anno abbia compiuto 30 anni (inserisci qui lacrimucce varie). Penso, però, che sia la verità visto che questo problema l'ho da sempre e da sempre ho una relazione di amore e odio con i correttori. Questo prima di incontrare il MAC Pro Longwear. In effetti ho bisogno di coprire le occhiaie con le quali i miei occhiali da vista adornano i miei occhietti, ma tutti i prodotti che ho provato prima di questo particolare correttore, non importa quanto buoni o duraturi fossero, mi facevano sembrare il Prof. De Martino di Daria (lo trovate nella prima foto, ve lo ricordate?) in 4 o 5 ore massimo. 

L'anno scorso ho ceduto ed ho comprato il famoso correttore MAC Pro Longwear (il mio colore è NC30) e da allora non ho più usato nient'altro. 

Questo correttore copre le occhiaie, discromie varie e brufoli (e visto che è liquido non fa pastoni sui brufoloni cistosi e dell'acne), dura tantissimo e ha un finish perfetto. Direi anche che è quanto di più naturale si possa ottenere con un correttore così coprente. 

Dura almeno 12 ore e non si infila per niente nelle rughette e nelle linee di espressione. E' davvero tantissimo e non avevo mai trovato niente di simile prima d'ora. 

Si applica e si sfuma molto bene, anche se secca un po' perciò se avete la pelle già secca, provate a mettere uno di quei correttori illuminanti sopra. 

L'unico rimprovero che faccio a questo prodotto fantastico è la confezione, che si presenta come una boccetta di plastica (non adatta alle persone maldestre) con un erogatore a dir poco demoniaco. Quell'affare è durissimo e si finisce sempre per premere troppo e perderne il controllo, facendo uscire davvero troppo prodotto (abbastanza per applicarlo sull'intero viso). 

Considerando che ne occorre davvero una quantità minuscola per coprire le occhiaie, è una nota davvero negativa.

 A parte questo dettaglio che spero MAC prenda in considerazione (visto che non sono l'unica persona che se ne lamenta), adoro questo correttore e ormai uso e userò soltanto lui. Nella foto più in alto, potete vedere quanto ne rimanga dopo 1 anno di uso quotidiano, dunque credo che sia decisamente un prodotto sul quale valga la pena investire.

Il correttore Pro Longwear di MAC costa € 19.10 (in Italia, ma i prezzi variano a seconda dei Paesi) in tutti i negozi e counter MAC delle vostre città o sul sito MAC cosmetics.

Review: Prodigieux le parfum by Nuxe

I have expressed my love for Nuxe several times in the past (just click here, and you'll read), especially when talking about their Huile Prodigieux, which is one of my summer staples (and a great hair mask too, all year round). So, just imagine my happiness when I learnt that they made a perfume version of their oil.

Serge Majoullier was called in to make this perfume fabulous, girly, bewitching, with head notes of bergamot, mandarin, and orange flowers, a heart of roses, gardenias, and magnolias, and finally vanilla and coconut milk.

Needless to say, this has rapidly become one of my favorite perfumes of all times for its perfect blend of flowery and fruity scents, which is never overwhelming. Although I think it is more of a spring/summer scent (a little detail which I find the packaging reflects well), I do not really mind warming up these cold winter days with two sprays. And it being an eau de parfum, you can rest assured it will stay all day.

Ho espresso il mio amore per Nuxe diverse volte in passato (cliccate qui e leggerete) specialmente parlando del loro Olio Prodigioso, che è uno degli immancabili nella mia routine estiva (oltre ad essere una buonissima maschera capillare per tutto l'anno). Perciò, immaginate l'incontenibile felicità nello scoprire che hanno fatto un profumo dell'olio.

Serge Majoullier è il naso dietro questo profumo favoloso, femminile, capace di stregare con le sue note di testa di bergamotto, mandarino e fiori d'arancio; il cuore di rose, gardenie e magnolie, e le note di fondo che oscillano tra vaniglia e latte di cocco.
Va da sé che questo profumo è diventato in men che non si dica uno dei miei preferiti di sempre, per via del perfetto mix tra profumi floreali e fruttati che non resta mai troppo pesante. Nonostante ritenga che sia più un profumo da primavera/estate (un dettaglio che trovo venga riportato piuttosto bene nel packaging), non disdegno il senso di calore che esso da ai giorni invernali con sole due erogazioni. E visto che è un eau de parfum, potete star sicure che rimarrà tutto il giorno.
