Review || Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

The Rouge Edition Velvet are cousins to the Rouge Edition lipsticks that Bourjois released something like two years ago. They are different from them in that they are liquid lipsticks that set on the lips and become matte. They are also supposed to last up to 12 hours, I think. I'm not sure about the 12 hrs claim, as I've never worn them up to 12 hours, but they've lasted a very long time on me without budging - or at least 3 out of 4 did.

Once you put them on (the applicator allows for precision even on thin lips) they have a slight glossy finish that will gradually become matte as they set. In most cases, you don't need more than one coat, but if you really want to put one extra layer, let the product set a couple of minutes before reapplying it.

As they have a matte finish, you can definitely use them as blushers as well. Technically, it's a similar product to YSL's Kiss & Blush, just a much better version of it (which reminds me, I need to review that too, and it won't be a rave as you can imagine).  They will set on your cheeks, stay there until you take your make-up off, and contrary to the YSL's Kiss &; Blush or most cream blushers, they won't make your cheeks look oily or emphasize your pores. You can wear them full-on, or get some of the product on your fingers and dab it on your lips as a hint of color that will become a great stain.

I purchased three shades from the line: Grand Cru, Frambourjois, Olé Famingo!. However, not every color applies nor perform the same way.

Grand Cru

Grand Cru is the last one I've bought, the most amazing color, and the biggest deception. First off, you need patience to apply it. It looks as if it's not coloring your lips, and just setting into lines. Strangely enough, it looks like a gel. So a second layer is in order with this shade. The second layer will give you the most amazing color and finish. However, Grand Cru WILL budge. You will find little red stains near your mouth (or even on your chin if you're a big scarf wearer like I am), yet the lipstick will bizarrely still be on your lips, full-on. I also suggest wearing a wax liner around your lips, because it tends to smudge after a bit.

On the cheeks, you only need the smallest amount of this or you'll look like a clown. Ronald Mac Donald's daughter ain't sexy, remember!

Frambourjoise

The shade that made me fall in love with this product. A great raspberry color - not too red, not too pink. Just glorious. On both lips and cheeks, it will set a bit slower than the other shades, but it will look awesome on any skin tone, and it won't budge. Ever. You can smoke and drink, it will not budge. A must-have.

After 15 minutes it wasn't dry and matt yet, so I took the picture :)

Olé Flamingo!

A great shocking pink which is not too over the top and actually wearable. It is great as a blusher too. It dries and sets faster than the other shades. 

All in all, this is a great multipurpose product. It's great value for the money, and its only downside is that if you live in a country that doesn't sell Bourjois, you will have to order them on Boots or Asos.

I Rouge Edition Velvet di Bourjois sono i cuginetti dei Rouge Edition, diversi da loro per il finish matte. Se non sbaglio dicono che dovrebbero durare 12 ore, ed anche se non sono sicura che arrivino ad una tale longevità sulle labbra, posso garantire che la loro tenuta è molto lunga anche se si beve o si fuma. 

Queste piccole perle hanno un applicatore come quello dei gloss, che assicura la precisione nella stesura anche su labbra fini. Appena applicato il colore è un po' glossato, ma dopo qualche minuto si asciuga, diventando completamente opaco. Il colore è pieno già dalla prima applicazione, in linea di massima, ma per un effetto soft si può anche picchiettare col dito sulle labbra in modo che si crei una tinta leggera. In maniera del tutto simile ai Kiss & Blush di YSL (ma decisamente in modo migliore) si possono portare anche come blush: in questo modo si fissano tutto il giorno sulle guance senza mai creare uno strato oleoso.

Non tutti i colori si comportano alla stessa maniera, infatti Grand Cru - il rosso più bello della linea - comporta difficoltà nella stesura (con lui, due passate sono d'obbligo) e sbava un po', anche se incredibilmente il colore resta longevo sulle labbra. Se lo portate come tinta, ricordatevi di prelevarne veramente una puntina, o sembrerete un clown, soprattutto se lo applicate come blush.

Frambourjois, invece è un bellissimo rosso-rosato (e qui vedete la mia masculina abilità nel descrivere i colori) che si fissa in pochi minuti e non sbava. Dona tanta luce a qualsiasi incarnato. Decisamente il colore più interessante della linea.

Olé Flamingo è un fuxia acceso, ma portabilissimo e si asciuga e fissa più in fretta degli altri colori. 

Tutto sommato Rouge Edition Velvet è un vero prodotto multiuso, con un rapporto qualità/prezzo decisamente alto e che vale la pena di provare. L'unica pecca è che se non si vive in un Paese in cui vendono Bourjois, ci si dovrà accontentare di ordinarlo sui siti di Boots e Asos.
