random updates

Hi everyone,
just a quick post for updates. You may have noticed that I put a new link on the sidebar, and that is my ebay account. I am selling some makeup, and I will also sell a dress there (I'll take pictures of it tonight).
Please, check it out, and if you're not interested in anything, at least spread the word. There are some rare gems there.
OH, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT: I ONLY SELL TO THE EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES, WHICH ARE THE FOLLOWING 27--> http://europa.eu/abc/european_countries/index_en.htm

Also, you may have noticed that my reviews are less frequent now, and my posts are all about fotd's. That's because I'm very busy with my thesis (time flies, grad's soon), but as soon as I finish the chapter and handle it I promise I will do more reviews and swatches for you. I have wonderful products to show you, but I will also write a post on products I didn't like, for once.

Now a very gross question - I hope you'll just laugh at that - but please answer, because I feel weird:
where do you sweat the most in your face? Do you sweat on your cupid bow and around your mouth at all? Because that's where I sweat the most, and I feel as if I had a beard or something. The mere thought of that being visible to others disgusts me, and I really hate it.
So, am I weird?

xoxo,
Lyd

My Boho look (Sleek Bohemian palette visual inspired)

All colours I used are mattes from the Sleek MakeUP Bohemian palette. I have tried to replicate the visual on the box as close as I could, but unfortunately the camera didn't reproduce exactly what I did.

On my face: KIKO Sunproof Cream Foundation, KIKO Sun Bronzing Trio in Highlighting Corals, and KIKO Sunproof Stylo lipstick in Sheer Nude. *

Hope you guys like it...now, I'm going to cook my aubergines in the Students dorm kitchen, and have everybody wonder why I am wearing that makeup at home! LOL

*all items sent to me by KIKO for consideration and reviewing purposes. I did not earn any monetary compensation!

A Sleek Bohemian FOTD

too much sun, it was hard to photograph the colours.
Anyway, I played with my Sleek Bohemian palette and some new KIKO goodies today.
I have to say the palette is better than I thought. Some of the colours are so buttery, which is very rare for mattes.

Isn't my face ridiculous? You need to know that in that very moment, a guy who lives on my floor was at his window and caught me taking pictures of my own self beside my window. Needless to say, this was an embarassed smile looking at him :S ashamed much? LOL

This is a horrible picture of me, but at least it's darker

Probably colours show better here (e/s wise)

FACE:
KIKO Sunproof Cream Foundation (SPF 15) in 00 very light
KIKO Sun Bronzing Trio blush in 01 Bonne Mine Pink

EYES
e.l.f. eyelid primer
Sleek Bohemian palette: cream e/s, vanilla e/s, and the taupe shade with purple undertones... (I gave names to those shadows for you to understand which shades I used, these are not their real names)
KIKO Shimmering Eyeliner in 01 Sparkle Black
KIKO 30 days treatment mascara

LIPS
KIKO Sunproof Stylo (SPF 15) in 05 Soft Red (this is amazing in real life. the perfect coral red)

The Sleek Bohemian palette was a win from their last month's Facebook competition

lucky ducky

A month ago, I won the Sleek MakeUP Facebook competition, and my prize was the full collection of i-Divine palettes...which arrived today!
They were packed very well inside a black box, and there were 10 of them. Only the Acid palette had some smashed shadows (this is why it isn't pictured), but fortunately, I own Acid already ;)

Wow, I feel like a little kid who has just gotten her set of crayons, when looking at all these colours!
Even some palettes I didn't think I would like have some colors that I'd use, and are buttery soft!
I can't tell you how much I love Curious, and the last three colors in the Graphite palette.
Also, there are some great, great colors in Bohemian, Safari, and even in Chaos, and how I love the last three shades in the bottom row of the Sunset palette!
The one that disappointed me a bit was Jewels...the colours are not as buttery soft as in the other palettes. Sad, because there are lovely shades there.
Did you notice that too, or is it just my palette?

Lyd

I got the blues (FOTN)

click to enlarge...I look scary in a thumbnail version!
(and yes, that is Sam Chapman behind me, among paintings by Caravaggio, Dalì, Rothko, Pollock, and Bacon. She deserved her place near my favourite artists!)

trying to show the rich colour...I love the lashes there! 2 thumbs up for the KIKO booster!

as usual picture looks blurry when I crop it...I much prefer taking photos with natural light!!! Damn you, flash!

And this is just a poser picture to show how I am going on with contouring.
I am not a fan of dark contouring if not for photographic purposes, so as you can see mine is very light. I loooove the Illamasqua Powdered Metal for contouring!

Products used:

FACE
Revlon Colorstay foundation in Sand Beige
Eyeko cream on the cheekbones and undereye (highlighter)
Illamasqua Powdered Metal in Thalia, for cheek contouring (buffered with a Sigma kabuki brush)
KIKO Soft Touch blush in 02 Pearly Pink Kiss on the apples of my cheeks (buffered with a Sigma powder brush)

EYES
KIKO Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 17 Blu Notte (base and on the lower waterline)
Barry M Dazzle Dust in 927 Storm Cloud
Urban Decay e/s in Sellout (highlight)
KIKO 30 days treatment mascara
Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara on top of the KIKO one

Review: 15 days extension lash treatment (collaboration with Olivia) - EN - IT

Hello again lovelies!
Sorry if I haven't been posting much lately, but I'm very busy with my thesis.

Anyway, this review will be a bit different than the usual ones, because it's basically an experiment I and Olivia (over Confessions of a Makeupholic) started on the 1st of April.
I was sent this lash booster treatment from KIKO, and she has decided to buy it too to start this with me, hoping we both end up in luscious lashes!

So, on to the actual review.
The treatment consists of a daily treatment mascara and a night booster treatment. If you only use one of these products, you're supposed to see the effects after 30 days, however, if you use them both, you should start seeing changes after 15 days.
The mascara itself is not at all bad. It has a silicone wand (I much prefer those!) that will provide the wonderful separation, but no curls or volume. It does elongate lashes a bit, but you have to build it. I love it because once your lashes are separated, you can put a volumizing mascara on and your lashes will look perfect. It's also very good for a natural look.

The night treatment is a transparent serum, that does not feel sticky at all.

Did it work?

I must admit that I have started to see some changes. My lashes look longer now, and they are definitely stronger.
Obviously the change is not drastic for now, so I have decided to go on with my experiment until the end of the month at least, if not more (quite possibly, until I have huge lashes).
I have taken some pictures to show you the process. Please, click on them to enlarge them, as the tips of my lashes are very very light and it will be hard to see where they are if you don't look closely!

bare lashes - day 1

bare lashes, after 1 week
I could see they were slightly curvier

bare lashes - after 15 days of religious usage
Lashes are longer, require much less mascara to achieve the false lash effect,
and they are stronger and curvier.

again, another picture of the results.
Taken with flash.

this last picture shows my eye in natural light. You can definitely tell the lashes are longer if you click on it (cos if you don't, you can't see my light tips!)
Sorry for the position and my bare skin - I had absolutely no makeup on.
(See the red patches? My skin is not as perfect as you think, girls!)

So what do you think? Do you see the same changes I see?
If you want to read other perspectives on this same product, go to Olivia's blog, by clicking here.

PS: excuse my un-groomed eyebrows. All these pictures were taken with no makeup on, whatsoever.

ITALIAN VERSION

Fatemi sapere.

I have earned no monetary compensation for my HONEST review.

Review: Soap and Glory's The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser

Final round of my Soap & Glory reviews: The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser (save the best for last!)

The picture above shows the usual cute packaging: the product comes in a 100 ml's tube with very fancy graphics.
Its consistency is that of a very thick cream, which you are supposed to cleanse your face with, in circular motion for at least 60 seconds (however, you can leave it on for a few more minutes allowing the natural oils to infuse into the skin)
After that, you must remove the cleanser from your face with a hot muslin cloth that is provided with the cleanser (which is 100% cotton, for those of you who are afraid of allergies). I say "must", because if you don't use the muslin cloth it is nearly impossible to remove the cream, and the product does not do its job.

The claim is that this cleanse, smooths and melts away any make up. Is this true?

Definitely yes! My skin condition has improved a lot since I have started using this (almost a month now), as it has a deep purifying natural formula that cleans my skin, shrinks my pores (like nothing else I have tried before), heals blemishes, and smooths the skin surface.
It is suitable for all skin types, as it does not dry out your skin, unlike most deep purifying products! I don't even feel the need to put moisturizer on, when I use this.

To say that I am in love with The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser is an understatement!
I love how it really shrinks the pores on the apples of my cheeks! My skin looks radiant and healthy now, and I am afraid I will have a withdrawal syndrome when I run out of it!

I'm never been one to stick to natural products only, because it's very hard to find cleansers or moisturizers that suit my particular skin type. Mostly, I only use products from Vichy or La Roche-Posay, which are very expensive and contain loads of chemicals (they work, so I don't really care!). Therefore, you can imagine how impressed I was when I realized that this product has lots of natural ingredients and only costs £9,00!

Main ingredients are:
Essential Oils – Orange, Lavender, Clary Sage and Rose Geranium
Conditioning Oils – Sweet Almond, Cocoa Butter, Coconut
Panthenol
Vitamins

So overall, this is one of the best skincare products I have ever tried, and I recommend it to everyone, especially to those with a normal skin (not dry, nor oily) that has problem areas, large pores, and are prone to break out. It is particularly effective, and will improve your skin from first usage!

xoxo,
Lydia

a FOTD and make-up storage

I always wonder why lashes look so small in pictures unless I put 20 coats of mascara :S

I was playing around with my Illamasqua items today, and I thought I'd try a bit of contouring (I never do that, mainly because I don't want to look orange, and then I have prominent cheekbones anyway).
I tried to match my makeup to my shirt

PRODUCTS USED:
FACE
Revlon Colorstay foundation in Sand Beige
Eyeko 3-in-1 cream
Illamasqua Powdered Metal in Thalia - to contour my cheeks, the inner parts of my brow bones, on the sides of the nose, on the temples. I have used it very lightly with a Sigma powder brush.

EYES
Pupa Luminys eyeshadow all over the lid
Illamasqua Powdered Metal in Thalia on the crease
Illamasqua cream eyeshadow in Amour as my eyeliner
Revlon black eyepencil
KIKO 30 days lash boost treatment mascara

LIPS
KIKO Red Emotion Sheer Lipstick in 100 Scarlet Coral Pink (it's transparent on my lips, just adds glossiness and shimmers)

And this is my new makeup storage:
I live in a students dorm, where the rooms are really small and we have no furniture besides a huge mirror (I love it) in our ensuite bathrooms.
Until 2 years ago, my makeup would fit into one of my drawers, but ever since I have started following videos on youtube, the drawer exploded.
So here is how I keep all the makeup I have with me at university:

I have recycled the beautiful and sleek black box Illamasqua sent me, and put things that didn't fit in my drawer. They had been hanging on my desk before.
Basically it's made of the KIKO lipsticks I reach more often, gel liners, KIKO long lasting e/s I reach more often, as well as their matt coloursphere e/s, cheek stains, Illamasqua Powdered Metal, Eyeko cream, and my KIKO lash booster treatment and mascara which I have been using everyday since April, 1st (post coming soon)

my infamous drawer (ask my friends when they want make-overs).
All my pencils (for eyes, lips and brows) are kept in the red revlon case, along with my eyeliner pens and concealers. I recycled a cotton buds' box to place my sharpener and things I use to maintain my eyebrows. Then I have recycled a mozzarella box (yes! that's so ghetto!) and place random lipsticks and lipglosses in form of pots there.
Below, are two other recycled boxes, cuter this time, because they used to be Whittard Tea boxes. I keep all my single eyeshadows and pigments in the first one, and my blushes, eyebrow kit and lipglosses tubes in the second one.
Next to that, I have my palettes: KIKO Omotesando Beige from the Electric Town collection, Pupa LE Golden Jewels, Nature Temptations from Clarins, Velvet & Jewels from Elizabeth Arden (these are all LE's), and then 3 Sleek palettes: Acid, Storm, and the Original.

Next is the messy part of my collection, things I didn't know how to store:

more recycled Whittard Tea: I keep my KIKO nail laquers there, and I keep more nail varnishes, removers, hand creams etc in the orange box. I also keep my BOS II there, because it's big and beautiful, and I don't want to hide it.
And then, last one of my recycled boxes that I covered in Soap&Glory wrapping paper. I keep my perfumes, random creams, and especially my S&G products there.

So, if you have 0 space in your room, like me, this can be a solution for your collection :)

have a nice day!

Little black box (an Illamasqua surprise!)

Click on the images to enlarge them. I had to reduce them because I was getting errors from blogger.

When I came home from the gym on monday morning, I found a very nice surprise:
a very elegant black box with a bow, from Illamasqua.
The box was sent to me by the lovely Alex Cummins, who was already sending other boxes to the bloggers who were supposed to attend an event that was cancelled. Therefore, she kindly decided to send one to me as well, to let me try out their products. Thank you, Alex, I really appreciate this!!!

This is what I've got:
posters, postcards, catalogues, and two products.
(not from the new Body Electrics collection)

First off, I want to take a minute to show you the amazing visuals this brand makes:

click on them to see a larger version. this one reminds me engravings from the 1500's - like Durer, for instance.
Behind this, was the release leaflet:

much more modern, futuristic.

again, this is very futuristic.
Talk about kinetic energy...
From this visuals, you clearly get the hint of what the brand is about:
not merely beauty, but the expression of one's personality, or one's art.
That is really innovative in the make-up field. It detaches make-up from the beauty and fashion industry, and accentuates the artistry behind it, which is great, and immediately scored in my books!
Even the expressions they use to promote their products are more artistic: they often use the word "adorn".

On to the products I received:

Liquid Metal in Phenomena (£ 17,00)

close up. click on it. I have tried to capture the milion lights from the metallic shimmers. I could not.
I will not post swatches of this, because I am sure you have already seen it all.
If you haven't, go to Bubblegarm's blog, she has amazing pictures of liquid metals.
This will be great for the summer, or for a night out, as a highligther or an eyeliner.
Unfortunately it creases as an eyeshadow, but who said adorning the eyes is only done with eyeshadows?

The second product I've got is a Powdered Metal in Thalia. (£ 22,00)
This can be used as a bronzer with a kabuki brush, or dusted all over face and body to create a soft sheen with a powder brush (and this usage will be great for the summer).
There is also a puff provided, but I've always found it hard to use puffs.

This is a close up of the Powdered Metal. Can you see how finely milled it is? Great quality for a powder!
Unfortunately, I could not get its gorgeous sheen in the pictures. I'd say these products can only be captured with very good photography skills and certainly not a normal digital camera!

Here is the powder on my hand.
I used it today as my contour powder, I will post a fotd photo when my connection allows me to.
It will also feature an Illamasqua cream eyeshadow, used as an eyeliner.

Overall, Illmasqua is a unique brand, and despite buying their products from Italy is really expensive, I will certainly buy some more when I go to London again!

Now, quick questions:

1. Do you know where they got their name from? Can it be from Latin, Illa mas quam?

2. Does their packaging remind you of something maritime too? And what about their logo?

Saturday around the old town

Me and my boyfriend went for a 2 hrs' walk downtown in the old town yesterday.
He showed me lots of things I had never paid attention to, eventhough I've been living in Sassari for almost 6 years now (he lives in the old town with his brothers, but at night time, that's not the best place for a lone girl).
Anyway, this is the town's Cathedral, it's named after San Nicola (Saint Nicholas).

Its construction was initiated in the XIII century, in true romanic style,
however due to many vicissitudes its construction finished between the XVII and XVIII century, especially works for the front. That explains the true baroque style you can see in the above pictures. It's intricate and beautiful.

Older parts of the Cathedral, you can see how the style has changed through the years (this is an older part).

I could not get in, as there was a mass taking place at that moment, and I wanted to have respect for all church goers, as I am an atheist, and it wouldn't be nice of me to take pictures while they prayed. I know better than that. ;)

I hope you liked the pictures, I liked yesterday's afternoon very much (of course, I had great company eheh)

Much love,
Lyd

Some looks from my friend's graduation

this is the makeup I wore in the morning, when my friend graduated.
It is very neutral, with a flicked liner. I like neutral and matte or satin looks for cerimonies.

You may notice I look weird here. My eyes reflected light so much that it looks like I have no pupils in my eyes :S
Well at least my skin was not bleached, as I took this photo with natural light.

for this look, I used:

FACE
Diorskin nude foundation
Eyeko 3-in-1 cream
MEMEME poppy tint on my cheeks

EYES
e.l.f. eyelid primer
a beige with pink undertones from the Nature Temptation palette from Clarins, on my lids
KIKO e/s in Cioccolato from the Colour Sphere Mat Duo in 201
a peachy satin highlighter from the Nature Temptation palette from clarins, on my browbone and inner corner
KIKO e/s in Mandorla from the Colour Sphere Mat&Pearly Duo in 209 dubbed on the inner half of the lids with my dry finger. Just to give a hint of shimmers
Eyeko Graffiti eyeliner
KIKO 30 days lash booster treatment mascara
e.l.f. eyebrow kit

Lips
KIKO Red Emotion Satin Lipstick in 200 Nude Rose

This is the look I wore at night, for her party:

I don't know why I can never take good pictures of browns, but trust me, it was brown and gold.
The gold particles where shimmers.

FACE
Revlon Colorstay foundation
Bourjois blush in Cendre de Rose Brune

EYES
KIKO beige rosato e/s all over the lid, and some some rosa confetto shimmers dabbed on the lid with my dry finger,
KIKO wengé blended above the crease and on the lower lashline
KIKO oro rutenio shimmers dabbed on the lid with a dry finger
Urban Decay Eldorado dabbed all over my lids and especially in the inner corners
Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil in Bourbon on the lower lashline and in the outer corners
Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara
(and I forgot to do my eyebrows here!)

LIPS
KIKO Red Emotion Satin Lipstick in 205 Sensual Red (isn't it rich?)

Please, show your support for Emergency's work!

On Saturday, April 10, soldiers of the Afghan army and the International Coalition Forces attacked the Emergency Surgical Centre of Lashkar-gah and arrested members of the national and international staff. Three of them are Italian citizens: Matteo Dell'Aira, Marco Garatti e Matteo Pagani.

EMERGENCY is an independent and neutral organisation. Since 1999, EMERGENCY in Afghanistan has provided medical assistance free-of-charge to over 2,500,000 Afghan citizens, by establishing three surgical hospitals, a maternity centre and a network of 28 first aid posts.

If you are tired of wars, of any kind of violence, any kind of abuse;

If you think that we will never stop a war, when we keep sending soldiers with weapons to kill innocent people;

If you think that attacking a no-profit HOSPITAL is an illegitimate and absurd action;

Please, give your support to EMERGENCY, now!

Go to their site, and please sign their petition, at least:

http://www.emergency.it/

I know that we can all differe in our political views, but this is a real non-governamental, no-profit organization.
On the behalf of many innocent, hard-working, pacifist people,
Thank you all!

KIKO L.E. Colour Sphere Mat & Colour Sphere Mat&Pearly: review and swatches (EN - IT)

This is what the eyeshadow duos look like in their packaging.
The black plastic has a rubbery finish, almost like the Nars packaging

...And this is what the eyeshadows look like in their box. Reminiscent of MAC boxes.

Had you ever seen baked MATTE eyeshadows before? I hadn't.
However, I am glad these were kindly sent to me from the ever-lovely Alice from KIKO.
I have always loved matte eyeshadows, although I didn't use to wear them much because it is very hard to find mattes with a good pigmentation.
These, thanks to the baked technology have a great colour pay-off, and have rapidly become a staple of my daily make-up.

The range has two variations: all-matte duos, and matte/pearly duos.
The matte shades need to be applied dry (although I've seen on another blog, that it is perfectly fine to apply them wet, and some of those shades look incredible wet), while the pearly shades can be applied dry for a sheerer, but glittery effect, or wet for a shimmery/metallic effect.
This is genious, as those eyeshadows will be suitable for day, evening, or clubbing makeup! All in one!
My previous FOTD post (matte purple) that you all seemed to like a lot was made using one of these duos, namely the lilac/purple one!

Now for some swatches, taken with natural light (sun was shining very bright):

Colour Sphere Mat : 200 - Beige/Moka, 201 - Rosa cipria/Cioccolato

202 - Rosa/Gelso, 205 - Grigio chiaro/Blu scuro, 206 - Grigio/Antracite
(I have no idea why I put 205 after 202 LOL)

203 - lilla/viola, 204 - ecrù/verde bosco

Colour Sphere Mat/Pearly: 207 - Oro rutenio/wengé, 208 - rosa confetto/beige rosato

209 - mandorla/fenicottero, 210 - glicine/orchidea, and above 211 - verde acqua/ottanio

212 - celeste/indaco, 213 - argento/nero

I also like the selection of colours very much, I find it is a nice combination of neutrals, browns, and bright, but wearable shades.

As for the lipsticks, I hope KIKO will put these on their permanent line, because they are extremely useful!

Also, their price is very affordable: all duos retail for € 6,90

Share your opinions on this product - I really, really love all of them!!!

Italian Version:

Avevate visto degli ombretti cotti OPACHI prima? Io no.
