Nabla is an all-Italian brand created by make-up artist Daniele Lorusso (MrDanielMakeup - if you are not Italian, and not familiar with him, then I suggest you check out his channel) and two other associates (a physician and an osteopath) whose policy comprises of freedom, innovation, fair prices, and cruelty free, highly performant products.
Their range is not huge for the moment, yet their products generated a lot of buzz in the beauty community, as the quality is unbelieveble for the price.
I'd managed to refrain from placing an order until few weeks ago, when I caved in and took advantage of the sales on their eyeshadow range.
I was impressed with their customer care: they packed my order in less then 24 hours, called me on the phone to make sure that my address was correct, dispatched the order in 24 hours using an express courrier. All in all, a very nice experience.
The eyeshadows I bought are both from the permanent range, and from their latest collection, called Solaris. I bought six refill pans, and got an empty magnetic palette (which has much resemblance to a small Z-palette) as a gift.
Nel caso abbiate passato l'ultimo anno recluse in qualche posto sperduto del mondo e non ne abbiate mai sentito parlare, sappiate che il marchio che sto per illustrare ora - Nabla - è il marchio creato dal make-up artist Daniele Lorusso (MrDanielMakeup su Youtube) e altri due soci (un fisico e un osteopata) la cui filosofia spazia dalla libertà, all'innovazione, ai prezzi equi per dei prodotti cruelty free, ma altamente performanti allo stesso tempo.
La gamma proposta non è molto ampia per il momento, ma i loro prodotti hanno fatto generato tanto clamore nella comunità beauty, per via della qualità incredibile contro prezzi veramente accessibili.
Sono riuscita a trattenermi dal fare un ordine per tanto tempo, fino a qualche settimana fa, quando ho ceduto e sfruttato le riduzioni sugli ombretti.
Inizialmente sono rimasta molto colpita dal servizio clienti: hanno evaso il mio ordine in meno di 24 ore, mi hanno chiamata personalmente al cellulare per accertarsi che l'indirizzo fosse corretto, e poi hanno inviato l'ordine in 24 ore utilizzando un corriere espresso. In generale, un'esperienza molto piacevole.
Gli ombretti acquistati fanno parte sia della linea permanente, che della loro ultima collezione - la Solaris. Ho comprato sei refill e ho ricevuto la palettina magnetica (che sembra proprio una mini Z-palette) in omaggio.

Above is the palette I assembled, taken from different angles, in day light. The top row is made of Extravirgin, Glitz, and Madreperla. The bottom row includes Antique White, Tribeca, and Aurum.
The texture of these eyeshadows are different, but all of them contain no silicones, no pegs, no petrolatum, nor edta's. Great, huh?!
The lasting power even without a primer underneath is impressive, especially for someone who has an oily lid like mine (due to my eyes being hooded). They are definitely MAC-comparable eyeshadows for a fraction of the price, which makes me very very happy. Only thing is, the pans are bigger so they will not fit into a MAC eyeshadow palette (which makes me very very sad).
Quella che vedete sopra è la palette da me assemblata fotografata da diverse angolature, sotto luce naturale. Dall'alto troviamo Extravirgin, Glitz, e Madreperla, nella fila inferiore sono inclusi Antique White, Tribeca, Aurum.
La texture di questi ombretti è diversa, ma tutti sono privi di siliconi, peg, petrolati, edta. Stupendo, eh?!
La longevità è stupefacente, anche senza primer sotto, tantopiù per una persona che come me ha la palpebra oleosa (data dalla forma degli occhi). Sono degli ombretti comparabili a quelli MAC, ma che vengono venduti davvero ad un terzo del prezzo dei MAC, il che mi rende davvero molto felice. L'unica cosa è che le refill sono troppo grandi per stare in una palette MAC (il che mi rende davvero molto triste).

Antique White:
Soft mat texture, which is ideal for creating shades and blending out colors. This can be applied wet or dry, and it is an ivory white that has a slight beige/cream undertone. This eyeshadow can be used as a base all over your eye lid for a soft mat look, or above another color to help transitioning shades when blending. Currently, as I have a (very little for now) tan, I love this eyeshadow as a brow highlight. I find it to be perfect for people who have hooded eyes like me, as a shimmery color often makes the lid even more protruding.
Texture soft matte, ideale per creare ombreggiature o sfumature. Si può applicare asciutto o bagnato, ed è un color avorio con una punta di beige/crema. Quest'ombretto può essere usato come base su tutto l'occhio per un look soft mat, oppure sopra un altro colore per aiutare la transizione delle nuance mentre si sfuma. Attualmente, visto che ho un pochino di abbronzatura, mi piace come illuminante per l'arcata sopraccigliare. Trovo infatti che questo colore sia perfetto per le persone che hanno la palpebra "hooded" (eh sì, non so come si dica in italiano. Pardon me!) come me, perché i colori brillanti spesso tendono a dare l'illusione di una palpebra fissa ancora più protesa.
Madreperla (Solaris collection):
As its name suggests it is a motherpearl-colored duocrome satin eyeshadow. It is listed as a "bright" textured eyeshadow on the site, which basically means that it contains light reflecting pearls that will add depht to your look. Once again, it can be applied wet or dry. I'm literally in love with its texture. I love the fact that it is a true satin eyeshadow, yet it can be duochromatic. I love its longevity on my lids: despite its natural formulation, it adheres very well onto my skin. The color is simply stunning: at first it is a bit reminscent of Patina by MAC, but it is a lighter beige, and its light-reflecting particles are pink and green-ish (as opposed to Patina, which has pink and golden particles). I love it as an all-over color, but it is a great highlight on the inner corner, as well a fun thing you can play with over another color or a dark cream base. If I had to define it in one word, I would say "sophisticated".
Come suggerito dal nome, si tratta di un ombretto duochrome satinato di colorazione madreperlata. Sul sito è descritto come un "bright", che essenzialmente significa che contiene delle perle luce-riflettenti che amplificano la profondità dello sguardo. Ancora una volta, l'applicazione è possibile sia asciutta che bagnata. Io mi sono innamorata della sua texture: mi piace il fatto che sia un vero satin, ma che possa restare un duochrome. Mi piace la sua durata sulla palpebra: nonostante la sua formulazione naturale, aderisce perfettamente alla mia pelle. Il colore è semplicemente fantastico: all'inizio può ricordare Patina di MAC, ma è di un beige più chiaro e le particelle riflettenti sono rosa e verdi (al contrario di quelle di Patina, che sono rosa e dorate). Mi piace tantissimo come colore su tutta la palpebra, ma è un illuminante eccezionale per l'angolo interno, ed anche un ombretto con cui divertirsi a creare colori sopra altre tonalità o da stendere su una base scura e cremosa. Se dovessi scegliere una sola parola per definirlo, questa sarebbe sofisticata.
Glitz:
Another "bright" eyeshadow which is a medium bronze, with brown and amber undertones. This is a great stand alone eyeshadow, as similarly to MAC's Woodwinked, it creates depth on its own. For that very reason, it is one of the most practical eyeshadows to use when you're in a rush. It looks exceptionally good paired with orange lips and cheeks, or a bright red or pink lipstick.
Tip: use it under your lower lash line when you look tired, it is an instant pick-me-up.
Un altro ombretto in texture "bright"; un bronzo medio con toni marroni e ambrati. E' perfetto usato anche da solo, perché in maniera molto simile a Woodwinked di MAC, crea profondità in maniera del tutto naturale e senza bisogno di altri colori. Per questa ragione si presta molto bene per un trucco veloce. E' davvero molto bello se portato con labbra e guance arancioni, oppure colori decisi come un rosso o un rosa acceso.
Consiglio: usatelo sotto le ciglia inferiori quando siete stanche, ravviva lo sguardo istantaneamente.
Aurum (Solaris collection):
Bright. Cool toned gold, which appears to be very close to a green as the yellow component is barely there. It looks great with blue and purple-ish blue eyeshadows, and it is a great inner corner highlight if your make-up is colorful or daring, and can be really nice used under your lower lashline as well. Great if you pair it with Extravirgin from Nabla.
Bright. Oro dai toni freddi, che quasi ricordano molto più il verde, visto che è quasi privo della componente gialla. Sta benissimo accostato con ombretti blu o blu violacei, è un bellissimo ombretto da usare nell'angolo interno se si portano trucchi colorati o audaci, e si presta benissimo usato anche solo nella palpebra inferiore. Bellissimo da accostare a Extravirgin.
Tribeca (Solaris collection):
Yet, another bright. This one is a dark brown with pink and bronze reflexes. I have yet to try it properly for a deep smoky eyes or a more complex look, but I love how it looks like a deeper version of MAC Satin Taupe on the pan, but has nothing much to do with it. I loved how it looks with Madreperla, both as a liner and the darker color of a simple smoky eye look.
Un altro bright. Questo è un marrone scuro con riflessi rosa e bronzo. Devo ancora provarlo per bene per uno smoky intenso o un look più complesso, ma mi piace che sembri una versione più marcata di Satin Taupe nella confezione, anche se in realtà ha poco a che fare con quest'ultimo. Mi è piaciuto tantissimo con Madreperla, sia come liner sia come colore scuro per uno smoky semplice.
Extravirgin:
And yes, guess what? It's a bright texture! This is hands-down the perfect olive green eyeshadow. I didn't really think it would have suited me at all (most olive greens do not), instead its consistent golden undertones make it neutral and perfect for people who have blueish green eyes like me: it will definitely make your blue eyes pop. The epitome of sultry and charm.
E indovinate? Sì, è un altro bright! Senza dubbio il verde oliva per eccellenza. Non pensavo mi potesse star bene (quasi nessun verde oliva mi sta bene), invece i suoi marcati sottotoni dorati fanno sì che sia un colore neutro e perfetto per quelle persone che hanno gli occhi blu verdi come me, perché fa risaltare la componente blu. Il paradigma della sensualità e del fascino.
So, if you made it through the end of this in-depth review, I really hope it has been helpfull. Overall, these eyeshadows are definitely MAC comparable, but for a fraction of the price. The color range is really nice and you can really see that a make-up artist worked on them.
