Ellis Faas Look #2 purple smokey eyes

This is the look I wore to my friend's birthday party last night. I know, cellphone pictures...but I was in a rush (you know, work, zumba practice that makes you soak in sweat, getting ready and all that jazz).
This was a super charged purple smokey eyes look, with an super beautiful bronze/gold inner corner. Again, I have used Ellis Faas eyeshadows for this, and I have charged the lower lashline a lot because of my eye shape. If I don't do this, my hooded eyelids becomes droopy, so yay for a charged lower lashline.

Ellis Faas Look #1

If you follow me from quite some time now, you know I love Ellis Faas. Her imagery is pure art, her products are simply beautiful. The whole concept, I find beautiful. I've been using Ellis Faas eyeshadows and lipsticks for years, and I've always said that despite the proposterous price, I'll buy her lipsticks again in the future.
Yeah, right: her lipsticks. Not the eyeshadows, I hear you say? No. Not unless they change the packaging. The product itself is awesome. Seriously, it is the best cream eyeshadow I've ever tried in my whole life. But, damn it, the stuff costs 26 € and the mechanism on the bullet is hell. It takes ages before it comes out of the tube, and most of the times, if you don't use the eyeshadows everyday, the product dries in the hole and obstructs it. When you screw the mechanism, the pressure is so much, the whole brush falls apart from the rest of the bullet. What the heck! You never manage to put it back properly, and the product inside just dries. For 26 freaking euros, I want more. I'd say the packaging is not appropriate to the content there, because I have never had the same problem with the lipsticks, and I'm sure as hell that doesn't happen with their foundation or concealer.

Anyway, I've recently decided to do my eyes make-up only with Ellis Faas products, so that I don't put them to waste, so expect more of these soon. You will see, the product itself is amazing, and I love it. So, this is the first look.
Enjoy.

Sì, i rossetti.

Sorry, I'm letting my eyebrows grow and I wear no foundation // Scusatemi, ma sto facendo ricrescere le sopracciglia e non porto fondotinta qui

My Halloween Make-up

Here is my contribution for this Halloween (the first I've ever celebrated!): I just put on some black clothes, feathers, and I had a "sexy zombie" makeover.
These pictures have been taken at 5 am, when I came back from a night spent at a pub and in a club, so my make-up wasn't fresh.
For my wounds, I used some toilet paper and DUO glue. After it all dried, I painted on them. :)

Ellis Faas: a family affair

Some days ago, I received a lovely email advising me of a new video on the Ellis Faas youtube channel.
The video, called A Family Affair, displays Ellis's brother's - Thijs - face being used as a canvas for what I would call make-up paintings. In fact, Ellis was inspired by a triptych painted by Francis Bacon (who, for the record, is one of my all time favorite painters), so keep that in mind when you watch the short film.

Ellis herselfs asserts that

As a late teenager, I visited the Tate Gallery in London and was blown away by a Francis Bacon triptych. It made a great impression on me because of the use of colour - it was unnerving and stunningly beautiful at the same time. Bacon inspired many experiments I did over the years. I now think it has become something of my own and hasn't much to do with Bacon any more

For some reasons, some of the shots remind me of Joan Mirò and Jackson Pollock too. Can you see what I see there?
Anyway, the video is mesmerizing (she shot that herself, in her own house) and it is accompanied by some touching piano melody her own daughter Flavia composed especially for the occasion.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. If you are fond of paint and art in general, I know you will.

(Thanks Thijs for sending this through. I sincerely loved it)

News: Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation now available in 30ml bottles

source: Ellis Faas Facebook page
Ellis Faas has taken a step forward in presenting a complete line. If you have familiarity with the brand (if you want to know more about it, click here), you should know their products come in shiny pretty pens. Of course, the pens could not stock 30ml of products, since they are taylored for the "woman-on-the-go".
However, at Ellis Faas they understood that a larger bottle of foundation was necessary and finally came out with a 30ml bottle of Skin Veil foundation, which are now available here: http://www.ellisfaas.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=40&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2&vmcchk=1
I haven't tried this foundation yet, but considering how much I love Ellis Faas' shadows, mascara, and lip products, I have no doubt believing that it is a great product.
Skin Veil is in fact marketed as follows:

The liquid formula of the Skin Veil provides the ideal amount of coverage and illuminates skin without looking or feeling like a mask. With an exceptional balance of high-quality ingredients, Skin Veil glides onto the face in a thin layer, magically blending into the complexion with moisturising ingredients that nourish, such as Vitamin E, and protect with SPF 15+.

The only downside? The price is outrageously high: € 65,00! Yes, way more my beloved Diorskin Nude foundation. I'm not sure I'd ever pay all that much for a foundation, I must admit. I think it would have to be an AMAZING foundation for me to pay all that much for just one product.
Also, as I have suggested on Ellis Faas' Facebook page, I think it would make it easier for people ordering online if they had clear indication of foundation shades; for instance, name of the shade - suitable for light skins with yellow undertones, etc. It would really save us all from spending € 65,00 on a foundation that we cannot wear, don't you think?

Let me know if you have ever tried their foundations. I'm very curious about them.

Skin Veil infatti è descritto dai suoi produttori come segue:

Yesterday I wanted to be quick but effective with makeup (and I also wanted to try my new Maybelline gel liner, which I must say I'm impressed with, for now) and opted for the plain eyes and bold lips theme.

Ellis Faas for War Child: the Make Up not War cause

Yet, another fabulous news from Ellis Faas. You know just how much I love the brand, its concept, and how much I love art. One thing you don't know about me, though, is that I am deeply into causes that involve helping children, especially when we talk about their psychological well-being.
Therefore, I was very proud I had the chance to collaborate with a brand that is embracing such a good cause as the War Child's one.
If you are wondering what Ellis Faas (as a make-up artist and as the brand owner) is doing for children, then take one minute to read all this:

"Ever since the first ELLIS FAAS products were released, people have been telling us "It is such a shame to throw away your beautiful pens once they’re empty." Therefore, we have come up with a programme ‘Make Up Not War’ that gives a second life to our pens, unburdens the environment, and last but certainly not least, gives us a chance to raise money for a terribly good cause: War Child - Warchild.org."

"We have set up a system to get back as many used pens as possible. Visual artists (locally and internationally well-known sculptors, fashion designers, photographers, industrial designers…) will then be asked to create a unique work of art using the pens. These works will be exhibited and then auctioned off. The proceeds will go directly to War Child. So we are calling on everyone to help us to help War Child, by returning the used ELLIS FAAS pens. Details can be found on ELLISFAAS.com".

WAR CHILD
In the vision of War Child sound psychosocial conditions for children and youth are prerequisite to being able to create a peaceful society. When children grow up in a safe, stable environment where their rights are not violated, the chances are that they will grow into well-balanced grown-ups. As such they will be able to avoid or resolve conflict situations in the future. Therefore the aid of War Child is aimed at improving the psychosocial wellbeing of children, to bring together groups of children separated by war and to draw attention to problems, needs and rights of children in war-affected areas.

War Child’s goal is the empowerment of children in and from war-affected areas, by means of:
- Psychosocial programmes using creative arts and sports to strengthen the psychological and social development and wellbeing of children;
- Creative arts and sports programmes aimed at uniting children driven apart by war, in order to contribute to a peaceful society;
- Creating public awareness of and generating support for the plight of children in war zones.
This sounds like a very fair cause, and we can finally do something just by recycling, so it's a double score cause. Just get on the Ellis Faas' official site and look for the nearest store to you, then take 30 minutes of your day to return your  empty pens and be proud of yourself.

Ellis Faas: eyeshadows and mascara review

apologies for the bag of tissues and stuff...

Hi ladies (and gents, if any of them are following me),
finally another post from me. Busy life! However, let me say THANK YOU for keeping on following my blog! It is much appreciated!
So do you remember my rave about Ellis Faas' lip products? If not, you can check out the post here.
Following in the Ellis Faas fascination that has taken over me, are eye products.
I was lucky enough to be sent three eyeshadows and their fabulous mascara to try.
Now let me tell you that they are definitely worth the price ( they range from € 23,00 to € 32,00). All of them!
The quality is once again excellent ingredients, pigmentation, and durability-wise. I can't say amazing anymore, because I now know that this brand is a sure hit, and I would only be surprised if anything lets me down.

Now for a more in-depth review:
ELLIS FAAS MASCARA € 23,00
This mascara has a rather creamy consistency and it is exceptional for lenghtening, separating and also volumizing lashes in just few coats.
It comes in the usual missile-shaped Ellis Faas pens, and has a very long wand (which makes it a practical tools for make-up artists or anyone doing make-up on others) and a thin brush made of bristles.
I think it is because of the perfect combination between the number of bristles and the size of the hole in the mascara container (which should enable the brush to be loaded with the right amount of mascara) that this product has so many pros and also grabs every lash.
Clumps and flakes-free this mascara is a definite recommend that comes in black and brown, and can be purchased here
The mascara wand. As you can see there is a load of product there, but still, this is not clumpy at all!

ELLIS FAAS CREAMY EYES EYESHADOW - € 26,00
Creamy Eyes have the perfect texture ever, in my opinion.
But I think anyone would agree on that. The formula is light weighted, quick-drying (which does not mean instantly, so you have enough time to blend), and velvety. Who doesn't love a velvet-like eyeshadow?
The best part: they start creasing after 12 hours. And I really mean 12 hours. Considering I have an oily lid, and I normally have to wear a primer with any eyeshadow if I want it to last, this is just great!
The shade I was sent is E105, which I find extremely peculiar: it dries to a matte finish, it looks brown, but it has a slight pink/lilac iridescense that makes it gorgeous. It also makes it the perfect base for MAC Shale!
I always use it when I teach my university course, as it is one of those colors that look natural, yet sophisticated.
The product contains a special extract of flowers and coffee. Will it be the secret to its covering yet soft texture? (answers on a postcard...)

ELLIS FAAS MILKY EYES EYESHADOW - € 26,00
Also from their original eyeshadows range, Milky Eyes is the more translucent version. The applicator in this eyeshadow is not a brush one, rather a sponge one. This makes the application a little bit more tricky, eventhough the site suggests using the sponge applicator and then blend on with fingers.
I like to apply different layers with this type of eyeshadow, first with my fingertips and then blending brush, and then with the sponge applicator of the pen, close to the lashes for a more intense look.
The shade I was sent is E203 - a lovely indigo blue that dries to a matte finish but still contains tiny little sparkles here and there (very softly).
This shade works great for a look for glasses wearers! You can take a look at that and other shades (and buy the product) here.

ELLIS FAAS LIGHTS EYESHADOW - € 32,00
These are the Ellis Faas metallic eyeshadows. Once again, they are liquid, come with a brush, and dry to smooth consistency. Although metallic, they are more than highlighters. They are actual eyeshadows that will last up to 12 hours on your lids.
They come in five shades for now, and some of them are so peculiar (hello, holographic bordeaux!)
I was sent E303 which is a powerful bronze you saw me wearing here.
I have no idea why there is so much difference in terms of price, do shimmers cost more to the companies, or is it just because the product is new?
Anyway, it's a lovely product! Really lovely.

Now my only gripe with these is, as usual, the pens' mechanism. You really have to be careful with it, especially on first usage. Sometimes the product takes a while to get to the surface, so the more you screw the more likely you can have an "explosion". I really think they should fix this problem, as the eyeshadows are quite expensive.

*I ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE ELLIS FAAS' NEWSLETTER THROUGH THEIR SITE, IN ORDER TO GET UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS. Afterall, it's holiday season now, who knows, maybe they will come up with great news?! (hint, hint)*

Bronze Prodige: and fotd using Clarins, Madina, Ellis Faas, and many more

If you are wondering why the title, it's soon to be said: it was inspired by the colors, and the new, gorgeous collection from Clarins, ROUGE PRODIGE.
The lipstick I am wearing is, in fact, part of this collection.
A full review of the products I own from this collection is coming soon.

Ellis Faas lip products - review and rave

Some weeks ago, I have received three lip products from Ellis Faas to try and review here.
I gave them full rounds, so it is time for me to tell you my thoughts about it.
Firstly, though, I want to give you a little background on the woman behind the brand, Ellis Faas herself, and her concept.

Who is Ellis Faas? - According to Vogue Paris, Ellis Faas is "one of the most influential make-up artists of her time", having worked for the most important fashion magazines in the world, and some of the world's best-known cosmetic brands (Clinique, M.A.C., L'Orèal to name a few). After her contract with L'Orèal ended in 2007, she was ready to launch and establish her own brand: ELLIS FAAS.

What is her concept? - Based in the Netherlands, the make-up artist elaborated a simple, but intuitive and innovative concept for her brand: Human Colours. Basically, her whole collection consists of colors that already exist in nature and in every human body, the so-called "human palette".

Ingredients are high quality, which results in great performances from these products.
Packaging design is very peculiar, with most of her products being held in pen-shaped holders (although they do remind me of missiles). What I didn't like about this packaging is simply that you have to twist the end too many times, and if you don't give it a little time between the first 10 twists and the others, you're probably going to experience an "explosion of product", which is basically a waste! At € 25,00 for 2.8 ml, you don't really want to waste any drop!!!

Other than that, the product is in one word AMAZING! Great ingredients, lovely, light-weight formulation and texture, durability, and brilliant pay-off.

See swatches, although I wasn't able to photograph the Ellis Red in its true glory:

From the left:
GLAZED LIPS L304 - See-through medium coverage, very glossy. The shade I have received is a lovely orange which has rocked this summer and will keep on being gorgoeous this fall, rest assured!

MILKY LIPS L205 - a gorgeous salmon shade that I love to wear with any make-up look really. Milky lips work for a more fluid and translucent appearence. The formulation is extremely light-weight, and can be applied with fingertips for a sheer effect. This has rapidly grown in my list of favourites!

CREAMY LIPS L101 - a classic lipstick: creamy, super pigmented, soft and velvety. It is also long-lasting. The shade I have been sent is the signature red by ELLIS FAAS: the ELLIS RED. This is the only color that comes in all three textures, and it is a universal red. Not too orangy, not too blue-based. It looks like true blood, and suits anyone. Want a proof? Click here and see samples of it on caucasian, dark, and asian skin tones!
The closest thing to this would be Masochist by Beauté, but this is even cheaper and there are no customs troubles for European buyers!
This is probably the shade I recommend the most, as it is gorgeous and can be used to achieve a full classic look or a super sexy one (well, classic is sexy in my opinion).

Of course, I realize this isn't affordable to anyone. As unemployed as I am now, I wouldn't be able to purchase them myself. But as soon as I get a job, I will definitely try their eyeshadows as well, as there are some real peculiar shades!

Teal eyes, orange lips look

I went out last night and I was wearing a teal dress, so I thought why not mix teal on my eyes with orange on my lips?
It's so summery and makes me think of a more classy version of the 80's makeup ;)

As per usual, my face has been bleached out by the camera flash. Thank you, light reflectant foundation! One day I will get someone else to shoot pics for me, because I've noticed that the farther you get, the more realistic the skin tone is. In real life, I am waaaaaaaaaaaaay more tanned. And I am darker than that even without a tan (I have a yellow undertone!)
