Current morning skincare routine (summer 2013)

Almost two months ago, I decided to go off the pill and see if my acne would reappear or not. Based on this decision, I decided to completely change my skincare regime to help my skin looking good nevertheless the sudden hormonal change.

Now, up to date my skin keeps being healthy, and there is no sign of acne so far, so I thought I might help someone by talking about the products I am currently using.

Quasi due mesi fa ho preso la decisione di smettere di assumere la pillola, per vedere se l'acne tornasse o meno. In base a questa decisione ho anche pensato di cambiare la mia routine di cura della pelle, per darle una mano a restare in buone condizioni nonostante il repentino cambiamento ormonale.

Some of them may not be available in all countries. I am lucky enough to be going to France each month, so the key product for this regime becomes available to me. Anyhow, let's get started.

Alcuni di questi prodotti potrebbero non essere disponibili in tutti i Paesi. Io sono abbastanza fortunata perché vado in Francia ogni mese, ed è proprio lì che trovo il prodotto chiave di questa routine. Ad ogni modo, iniziamo.

MORNING ROUTINE // DI GIORNO

GARANCIA - PSCHITT MAGIQUE (Sephora.fr; Parapharmacies in France; € 30,50)

I had seen this product on Eva's Youtube channel (Evamysu - subscribe if you understand French. She is a great and honest youtuber, plus she's a professional) and I had to give it a try. This product is a botanical everyday peel that comes in a foam form, and must be applied on dry skin. You rinse your hands and apply two pumps on your hands, then you apply the peel on your face (steer clear of the eye area) and let it sink in for 30 seconds (I often go further than the 30 seconds, but they do the trick) before rinsing off. I swear this product leaves my skin looking gorgeous and it does not dry my face out. I has helped me so much with my acne red scars, and helped preventing spots that I will repurchase this for life. Obviously, it is a face wash that you use in the morning (only once a day), as it does not washes off any make up. The price is huge, but two pumps a day will last for 2 months or more. I finished my 2 months period just yesterday and there is still something left. This product has changed my life.

Questo è un prodotto che vidi tempo fa sul canale di Eva (Evamysu su Youtube, e se capite il francese iscrivetevi perché lei è una youtuber onesta e soprattutto fa l'estetista/truccatrice di professione quindi da sempre buoni consigli) e datosi che la nostra pelle è molto simile ho deciso di provarlo. Praticamente è un peeling botanico (non naturale, non bio...botanico!) sotto forma di mousse, e che va applicato su pelle asciutta. Bisogna inumidire le mani, applicare su due erogazioni con la pompetta e poi stendere il prodotto sul viso (ripeto, asciutto!) evitando il contorno occhi. Lo si lascia agire per 30 secondi (io a volte vado oltre i 30 secondi, ma 30 sono sufficienti perché il prodotto agisca) prima di risciacquarlo. Vi giuro che questo peeling ha cambiato completamente la mia pelle: la lascia bellissima e non secca affatto, mi ha aiutato a ridurre il rossore di alcune macchiette lasciate dall'acne e inoltre mi ha aiutato a prevenire l'apparizione di nuovi brufoli. Lo ricomprerò a vita. Chiaramente, visto che non è un detergente struccante, va applicato la mattina (o la sera, ma solo se non ci si è truccati) ed una sola volta al giorno. Il prezzo è molto alto, ma due erogazioni giornaliere durano ben due mesi. Io ho finito i due mesi di utilizzo ieri e ancora c'è qualcosa.

SANOFLORE - ELIXIR DES REINES - Serum - (Pharmacies, Parapharmacies; prices vary 38-45 €)

I had the chance to discover this at an event, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on a sample. How awesome is this anti-ageing, glow-giving serum? Its secret is royal jelly, nothing more than a simple bee secretion (used for the nutrition of queen bees, hence the name of the product) that is known to have anti-ageing properties. 99% of the serum is made of natural ingredients, 25% of which are organic, and this really works! It feels a little tacky when you first apply it, but it sinks in immediately and leaves your skin super-supple and firm. Also, it has some light reflecting tiny particles that helps reducing the appearence of enlarged pores and fine lines, and adorn the face with a natural glow from within. The only downside to it is the price. In Italy, this can reach 45 euros, whereas I have seen this in France for 38 euros, which is expensive enough. I am currently on my second moth of usage and there is still a month or so left, I believe. If you have a job that allows you to spend 38 to 45 euros each 3 months, go for it. It is a wonderful product, and nothing more than its smell will make you feel like a queen. 

Questo è un prodotto che scoprii tempo fa ad un evento, e che mi è stato inviato poi in prova. Non riesco a dirvi quanto sia fantastico questo siero anti-età e illuminante. Il suo segreto è la pappa reale, niente di più che una semplice secrezione delle api (utilizzata per la nutrizione delle api regine, da cui viene infatti il nome del prodotto) che è nota per le sue proprietà anti-età. 99% di questo siero è fatto di ingredienti naturali, di cui 25% sono bio, e questo prodotto funziona davvero! E' un po' "colloso" quando lo si applica, ma si assorbe in un secondo e rassoda bene la pelle. Per di più ha delle microparticelle che riflettono la luce e aiutano a ridurre l'apparenza dei pori allargati e delle rughette, ed adorna il viso con una splendida luce che sembra provenire proprio dall'interno della pelle. L'unica pecca è il prezzo, che è molto alto e varia parecchio. In Italia l'ho visto anche a 45 euro, ed in Francia anche a 38, che è comunque tanto. Io lo utilizzo da due mesi e penso di averne ancora per un altro mese. Se avete un lavoro che vi permette di spendere dai 38 ai 45 euro ogni tre mesi, vi consiglio di utilizzarlo, è un prodotto davvero magnifico e il solo suo profumo vi farà sentire delle regine. 

SANOFLORE - REGARD MERVEILLEUX - eye cream (Pharmacies, Parapharmacies; 23 euros) 
 I bought this eye cream while I was in France, as I needed one and I had familiarity with the brand already. It was indeed a nice surprise. First off, its smell is divine. Secondly, it woke up my tired, puffy eyes right on. A definite repurchase, and a definite recommend...a definite marvel!

Ho comprato questo contorno occhi l'ultima volta che son stata in Francia, avendo già abbastanza familiarità con il marchio e l'ho trovato una graditissima sorpresa. Prima di tutto, il profumo è divino. Secondo, ha risvegliato il mio sguardo affaticato e appesantito immediatamente. Lo ricomprerò sicuramente e lo raccomando caldamente...davvero una meraviglia!

L'OCCITANE CREME DE BEAUTE SUBLIME - BB cream (L'Occitane stores/authorized sellers/websites 20 - 26 €)
Another discover from the last time I was in France, and another awesome product. I am usually not a fan of BB creams (I guess my most dated followers may recall this), and overall I honestly think that Western BB creams are nothing but upgraded tinted moisturizers. That being said, I also think that there aren't many tinted moisturizers/BB creams that suit the needs of combination skins. This is one of them. Its finish is matt, but not dry (more like matt on the t-zone and satin on other parts), the shades aren't that bad either and suit my yellow toned skin too. It moisturizes properly, so you don't really need to wear your usual moisturizer underneath; it does reduces enlarged pores, as well as evening out the skin tone as well. I would not say this has good coverage, but it has at least a medium one. On the box it says that it also improves the quality of your skin after 28 days of usage, and while I cannot garantee that, I can pretty much say that my skin looks good, and it has never broke me out or left me looking greasy.
Alas, it costs quite a bit, but I've been using it for two months now and I still have a ton left. I am also confused about its price: I paid it 20 euros in France, but I know that is sold for 26 in Italy.
I hope the L'Occitane team reads this and tells me why the abrupt increase.

Un'altra bella scoperta fatta l'ultima volta che mi trovavo in Francia. Le veterane di questo blog sicuramente ricorderanno che non sono una grande fan delle BB cream occidentali, e che penso che siano solo delle versioni aggiornate e migliorate delle creme colorate. Detto ciò, penso anche che non ci siano tante creme colorate/BB cream che incontrino i bisogni delle pelli miste. Ebbene, questa è una di quelle. Il suo finish è opaco, ma non piatto e "asciutto" (direi più matt nella zona T e satinato nel resto del viso), le due coloraizoni proposte non sono male e soddisfano anche la mia pelle olivastro chairo. Idrata per bene e non c'è bisogno di mettere la crema abituale sotto. Riduce l'apparenza dei pori e uniforma il colorito. Non direi che ha una coprenza buona, ma almeno media. Sulla scatola c'è anche scritto che l'utilizzo per 28 giorni dovrebbe migliorare la grana della pelle e sebbene non possa dare garanzie su questo, posso confermare che la mia pelle è in buone condizioni, che non mi ha mai dato problemi di brufoli o di pelle lucida. 

Purtroppo costa un bel po', ma la uso da due mesi e ne ho ancora tanta. Sono anche un po' confusa dalla questione del prezzo. Perché, vedete, in Francia l'ho pagata 20 euro, ma qui in Italia ne costa ben 26 (va da sé che non comprerò MAI questa BB in Italia). Spero tanto che da L'Occitane leggano questo post e mi sappiano spiegare come mai hanno deciso di alzare così bruscamente i prezzi qui. 

Overall, I love this routine, and I will stick to it for as much as I can. I hope this post has been helpful to you, and I will come back soon with the night time routine.

Review: Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2

This name should be in the back of every beauty junkie's head, as it is the second step to the famous (and highly debated) 3-Step Skin Care System patented by Clinique. 

Now, while the concept behind the 3-Step System is commonly known, some of you may not know that its second phase, consisting in a sweep over the face with Clarifying Lotion makes a huge difference compared to your usual "after cleansing tonic" action.

On the other hand, those of you who are familiar with Clarifying Lotion and have used in the past may recall that it is not a tonic at all. In fact, I am pretty sure a lot of you got to the point where I got: you got your skin burnt from using it. Yes, you did read what you read: burnt!

Questo nome non dovrebbe suonar nuovo se siete appassionate di bellezza, visto che questo prodotto corrisponde alla seconda fase del celebre (e molto dibattuto) Sistema di Cura della Pelle a 3 Fasi ideato e brevettato da Clinique. 

Ora, benché il concetto del 3 Fasi è largamente noto, alcune di voi potrebbero non sapere che la sua seconda fase, che consiste in una "passata" di Clarifying Lotion su tutto il viso ha una grossa differenza rispetto all'azione di un qualsiasi tonico per così dire "normale". 

D'altro canto però, chi di voi già conosce Clarifying Lotion e l'ha usata in passato, dovrebbe ricordarsi che questo prodotto non è propriamente un tonico. Infatti, sono quasi certa che molte di voi si siano ritrovate nelle mie stesse condizioni, ossia ad avere la pelle bruciata per l'uso di questo prodotto. E sì, avete letto bene: bruciata!

Clinique Clarifying Lotion is, in fact, an exfoliating liquid lotion. It contains a high percentage of alcohol, therefore, you should be thoroughly taught how to use this product. 

Clinique Clarifying Lotion, infatti, è una lozione liquida esfoliante. Contiene un'alta percentuale di alcool, e pertanto occorre che vi si istruisca bene su come usare il prodotto in questione.

Just so you know, before I get to the actual review, Clinique improved the formulation by reducing the percentage of alcohol last year (if I remember correctly, it was exactly one year ago that they reformulated it! - happy birthday, new C.L.!) so no, you are not going to get burnt anymore, but you do need to be carefully advised on what your lotion number is, as there is one for each skin type, and they all interact with your skin type differently. 

I did notice the change in the formulation, having tried the "classic one" and the new one, and I can testify to the fact that the latter is much more gentle and easy to use.

A titolo informativo, prima che passi a recensire il prodotto, vi dico che Clinique ha migliorato la formulazione riducendo la percentuale di alcool proprio lo scorso anno (e se ben ricordo è stato proprio un anno fa! - buon compleanno, C.L.!) quindi, non temete: non vi brucerete più, ma dovete stare comunque attente e farvi consigliare bene su quale numero di lozione siete, dato che ne esiste una per ogni tipo di pelle, e che ognuna interagisce in modo diverso con ogni tipologia.

Io ho notato la differenza della riformulazione, avendo provato sia la "classica" che la lozione nuova, e posso testimoniare che l'ultima è molto più delicata e facile da usare.

So, how should you use it?

You have to pour a bit onto a cotton ball, and sweep it over your face only once and in one direction for each part of your face. Do not go over an area you had previously used this lotion on more than once. It will "burn".

With this product, less is more. You don't need to pour 1 gallon onto your cotton ball. 

One thing you have to bear in mind (and I cannot stress this enough) is that you need to use the correct lotion for your skin type. If you do not trust your local shop assistant's opinion (I totally understand that), go to the Clinique website and take the test to find out what your skin type (in their numbering) is, and take it from there. 

I did that, and I found out I have a dry to combination skin, which in their numbering is 2, and the lotion I am using works wonders for me.

E dunque, come bisogna usarla? 

Bisogna versarne un pochetto su un batuffolo di cotone e passarlo sul viso una sola volta ed in una sola direzione per ogni parte del viso. Non ripassate su un'area in cui avevate già usato il prodotto. Brucerà.

Con questo prodotto è decisamente meglio essere parsimoniosi. Infondo, non avete bisogno di metterne un litro sul batuffolo. 

Una cosa che dovete tenere bene a mente (e mi sembra importante ripeterlo) è che bisogna trovare il tipo di lozione giusto per il vostro tipo di pelle. Se non vi fidate della commessa del negozio (e vi capisco!), andate sul sito della Clinique e fate il test per scoprire quale tipologia di pelle (nella loro numerazione) siete e continuate da lì. 

Io l'ho fatto ed ho scoperto di avere una pelle da secca a mista, che nella loro numerazione è la tipologia 2 e la lozione che ho funziona perfettamente.

Ok, but what will Clarifying Lotion do, once I learn how to use it?

It will control your excess oil. It will exfoliate daily and gently, taking away the dead cells sitting on the surface of your skin, allowing the re-generation process to begin.

Most importantly, it will even out your skin and drastically reduce the appearance of your pores without clogging them.

D'accordo, ma che effetti ha Clarifying Lotion, una volta che si è in grado di usarla correttamente?

Controllerà l'oleosità in eccesso. Esfolierà delicatamente e giornalmente la vostra pelle, rimuovendo le cellule morte che restano sulla superficie della pelle, in modo da favorire il processo di rigenerazione. 

Ma la cosa più importante e visibile è che uniformerà la grana della pelle e ridurrà la visibilità dei pori senza ostruirli.

I personally cannot recommend this product enough, as it contributed to improve the appearence of my skin a lot during the past year. 

It is easily accessible everywhere, and it retails for 15 euros I believe, for 200ml. You may think it is a lot, but I can assure you, if you use it properly - both morning and evening - it will last you almost a year. As I said, less is more with it, so on the long run you're saving money. 

Personalmente non posso che raccomandare il prodotto, visto che ha contribuito a migliorare la mia pelle durante l'ultimo anno.

E' facilmente accessibile ovunque e costa, se non sbaglio, una quindicina di euro per 200ml. Forse penserete che sia troppo, ma vi posso assicurare che, se usato bene, anche due volte al giorno (mattina e sera) vi durerà quasi un anno. Come ho già detto, è meglio usare parsimonia e nel lungo raggio, sicuramente avrete risparmiato dei soldi.

Obviously, this is my personal opinion of the Clarifying Lotion 2, but bear in mind I cannot speak for other skin types and how they react to it. My best advice is get a sample, and look for reviews online.

Ovviamente queste sono le mie opinioni personali sulla Clarifying Lotion 2, e tenete bene a mente che non posso parlare per gli altri tipi di pelle e la loro reazione a questo prodotto. Il mio consiglio è quello di procurarsene un campione e di guardare recensioni online prima di un eventuale acquisto.

The serum that has changed my skin: Skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense

At the beginning of November, I attended an event in Milan with some other bloggers, where the lovely team from Cosmétique Active (a division of L'Orèal) showed us some great skin care products and some perfumes.
They also gave us a very generous goody bag, where I found the one product that has drastically changed my skin: Blemish + Age Defense serum by Skinceuticals.

All'inizio di novembre sono stata, insieme ad altre blogger, a Milano ad un evento organizzato

dal fantastico team di Cosmétique Active (una divisione di L'Orèal, ndr), in cui ci son stati mostrati 

dei bellissimi prodotti di cura della pelle ed alcuni profumi.

Al termine dell'evento, siamo state omaggiate di una generosissima goody bag, dentro la quale ho trovato anche il siero che ha drasticamente cambiato l'aspetto della mia pelle: 

Blemish + Age Defense di Skinceuticals.

Contained in a 30 ml little bottle equipped with a dropper, Blemish + Age Defense is a viscous serum that you apply every morning and evening to help you reduce your skin imperfections and prevent UV skin aging effects.
This product is targeted for people in their adult age who still experience breakouts, or have sebum control problems, but also have the typical needs of someone who is not in their teen years anymore. Ergo, this product is target for people like me: combination skin (normal with bad occasional breakouts and dilated pores), acne prone, acne scarred, but not suitable anymore for treatments that dry my skin out.

Blemish + Age Defense, contenuto in un flacconcino da 30 ml dotato di contagocce, è un 

siero dalla consistenza viscosa che si applica ogni mattina e sera per aiutare a ridurre le imperfezioni e prevenire 

gli effetti di invecchiamento causati dai raggi UV.

Questo prodotto è mirato alle persone che, nonostante in età adulta, ancora soffrono di sfoghi

o hanno problemi di controllo del sebo, ma che allo stesso tempo hanno le 

necessità tipiche di chi non ha più una pelle da adolescente.

Ergo, questo prodotto è mirato per persone come me: pelle mista (normale, con sfoghi occasionali e pori dilatati), prone all'acne, segnata dall'acne, ma non più adatta a trattamenti che possano seccare la pelle.

Why has it changed my skin drastically? Well, after a little over a month of usage, this serum has reduced my acne scarring (red marks) by at least 80%. It has also freed me of those ugly tiny pimples I had been getting everyday for 13 years on my forehead, as well as reduced the appearence of pores on my cheeks. Moreover, the anti-aging ingredients have given me a gorgeous luminosity without turning me into a grease ball, and also reduced the appearence of some fine lines you start to get when you're, alas, 27.

Perché mi ha cambiato drasticamente la pelle? Beh, dopo poco più di un mese di utilizzo, 

questo siero ha ridotto le mie cicatrici da acne (macchiacce rosse) almeno dell'80%. Mi ha anche liberata da quei minuscoli brufoletti orrendi che mi sono ritrovata sulla fronte per 13 lunghi anni, ed ha pure ridotto 

l'apparenza dei pori dilatati sulle guance. 

Inoltre, le sue proprietà anti-invecchiamento mi hanno donato una bellissima luminosità

senza farmi sembrare una palla di grasso ed hanno anche migliorato l'aspetto di qualche

lineetta che iniza a vedersi, ahimé, quando si raggiungono i 27.

Now, the only downside is that this product is very very expensive (when I googled it, some online stores sold this for € 78,00!), but is indeed a valuable product that you need to take into consideration. I reached half the bottle today, and as I said, I have been using 6 drops of this every morning and evening for over a month.

Ora, penso che l'unica pecca di questo prodotto sia il prezzo veramente alto 

(quando l'ho cercato su google, alcuni negozi online lo vendevano per 78 €), 

però è davvero un prodotto di gran valore che bisogna prendere in considerazione.

Io ho raggiunto metà bottiglia oggi, come ho detto prima, e ne ho usate 6 gocce ogni mattina ed ogni sera per più di un mese.

Product Rave: Liz Earle review part 1

Hi everyone,
back in June I have received a lovely (and huge) package from Liz Earle (from the lovely Andrea, who I have to thank so much, as she selected some great products for me!), and due to my graduation and all I could not review the products sooner.
Nevertheless, I had time to give almost two months of usage to all of the products, so it was really time to write this review (I finished the Cleanse and Polish pump bottle yesterday, go figure).

So for those of you who don't know it yet, Liz Earle is a British company which is specialized in "naturally active skincare". The concept behind the brand is, in fact, using quality natural ingredients (even natural preservatives where possible, which results in most of their products being paraben-free); creating products whose application is simple and quick; preserving the environment, and finally give the customer an impeccable service. OH, and did I mention all of their products are cruelty-free? ;)

In my opinion, this brand keeps its promises! For instance, I will spend two words about their customer service: it really is impeccable. Each product comes wrapped in tissue paper, sealed with a sticker with their logo (which is really nice, by the way. It's a good balance between science and girly). If this isn't caring about customers, I don't know what is.

Let's get straight to the point (the review).

The first thing I'm going to write about is their CLEANSE AND POLISH HOT CLOTH CLEANSER, which has been sento to me in its Starter Kit version, consisting of a 100 ml pump bottle of Cleanse and Polish HCC, a tourquoise pouch, and 2 muslin cloths.
This product has been a classic for 15 years now, and won numerous awards in the UK.
Cleanse and Polish is a cream cleanser that you need to massage onto your face in circular movements (preferably), and will remove all makeup residues, and deeply cleans your skin. It leaves your face very soft and hydrated.
You have to remove this cleanser using one of the muslin cloths included in the kit, rinsed with hand-warm water.
I really love this product and it will be a definite repurchase!

The other product I want to talk about is the INSTANT BOOST SKIN TONIC, a lovely smelling tonic which is very delicate and does not dry or irritate your skin. It does not contain alcohol, and does not claim to be astringent when it is not. It is hydrating and calming, thanks to Vitamin E and Organic Aloe Vera, and rose-scented geranium.
I particularily love this product, and this is the ONLY tonic I can use on my skin. The bottle contains 200ml and I haven't finished it in almost 2 months! Incredible, as I have been using it twice a day daily! You can also select the spritzer version on the site :)

The last product I will review today is the SKIN REPAIR MOISTURIZER for normal/combination skin. It is a rich moisturizer that may seem greasy at first, but it is not. It moistens deeply, without resulting oily.
It leaves your skin soft and radiant, but it does not reduce redness or treat spots. It is a moisturizer, which has given a glow back to my skin after using lots of acne treatments products.
The jar contains 50ml which is enough for a lot of time, so it is a good value for the money.

Liz Earle products are not really cheap (not even super expensive, but still...), but they are definitely a good investment as products last you ages, they are natural, and super good products!

I will surely repurchase products from this brand, and I highly recommend you give it a try.

Review: Soap and Glory's The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser

Final round of my Soap & Glory reviews: The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser (save the best for last!)

The picture above shows the usual cute packaging: the product comes in a 100 ml's tube with very fancy graphics.
Its consistency is that of a very thick cream, which you are supposed to cleanse your face with, in circular motion for at least 60 seconds (however, you can leave it on for a few more minutes allowing the natural oils to infuse into the skin)
After that, you must remove the cleanser from your face with a hot muslin cloth that is provided with the cleanser (which is 100% cotton, for those of you who are afraid of allergies). I say "must", because if you don't use the muslin cloth it is nearly impossible to remove the cream, and the product does not do its job.


The claim is that this cleanse, smooths and melts away any make up. Is this true?

Definitely yes! My skin condition has improved a lot since I have started using this (almost a month now), as it has a deep purifying natural formula that cleans my skin, shrinks my pores (like nothing else I have tried before), heals blemishes, and smooths the skin surface.
It is suitable for all skin types, as it does not dry out your skin, unlike most deep purifying products! I don't even feel the need to put moisturizer on, when I use this.

To say that I am in love with The Fab Pore Hot Cloth Cleanser is an understatement!
I love how it really shrinks the pores on the apples of my cheeks! My skin looks radiant and healthy now, and I am afraid I will have a withdrawal syndrome when I run out of it!

I'm never been one to stick to natural products only, because it's very hard to find cleansers or moisturizers that suit my particular skin type. Mostly, I only use products from Vichy or La Roche-Posay, which are very expensive and contain loads of chemicals (they work, so I don't really care!). Therefore, you can imagine how impressed I was when I realized that this product has lots of natural ingredients and only costs £9,00!

Main ingredients are:
Essential Oils – Orange, Lavender, Clary Sage and Rose Geranium
Conditioning Oils – Sweet Almond, Cocoa Butter, Coconut
Panthenol
Vitamins

So overall, this is one of the best skincare products I have ever tried, and I recommend it to everyone, especially to those with a normal skin (not dry, nor oily) that has problem areas, large pores, and are prone to break out. It is particularly effective, and will improve your skin from first usage!

Vichy's Normaderm

I ran out of moisturizer today, so I went to a pharmacy because I decided to try Normaderm by Vichy. It is supposed to reduce redness, level all imperfections, and unclog and minimize pores.
I tried it, and it left my skin smooth and nice. It also has a nice smell. My skin should be fine in 2 weeks and perfect in 4.

Has anybody else tried this product?
