1. PLL's Halloween episode (a.k.a. series that are losing their mojo)

Why do producers have to ruin series by planning Halloween episodes? This season of PLL wasn't already too exciting, but seriously, this one? It sucked. It had no plot, and honestly...Hannah lets Caleb stay in Ravenswood with a complete hot stranger because he's the "type of guy that she can trust"?! Oh, for crying out loud! 

How did you find the episode, and what do you think of recent developings (or lack, thereof) in the series?

2. L'Oréal Eau de Teint

Yes, I found it and I have tried it all day today. Expect a review soon, because it is something really peculiar. 

3. Make-up for photoshoots: a learning process

The last time I was in France, I tried taking pictures to post on this blog with Monsieur LePhotographe. Turns out, the eye make-up is fine, but the base on the other hand...definitely something to work on. Yes, creating a flawless base for HD pictures is completely different than doing your make-up for events or nights out. I thought I had it, but apparently I really have to learn. That's cool, though, it calls for practice and a lot of fun (and great quality pictures on the blog). 

4. Do you too experience the awkward moment...

...when you go all Miley Cyrus when putting mascara on your bottom lashes?

1. L'episodio di Halloween di PLL (ovvero, la magia svanisce)

Mi chiedo perché i produttori debbano rovinare le serie con gli episodi di Halloween. Già questa stagione di PLL non era molto eccitante, ma questo episodio...seriamente, faceva pena. Non aveva trama, e onestamente vi pare verosimile che Hannah lasci quel gran gnoccolone di Caleb a Ravenswood con una sconosciuta gnoccolona, perché tanto "è il tipo di cui ci si possa fidare"? Ma per carità. 

Voi come l'avete trovato? E cosa ne pensate degli sviluppi recenti (o della loro mancanza)?

2. L'Oréal Eau de Teint

Un altro capitolo della saga: l'ho trovato. E sembra figo. Aspettatevi presto una recensione, perché  è qualcosa di veramente particolare.

3. Trucco fotografico: un processo d'apprendimento

L'ultima volta che ero in Francia, ho fatto delle foto con M. LePhotographe per il blog. Quelle del trucco occhi sono uscite bene, ma quelle con la base, invece...bisogna decisamente lavorarci! Sì, la realizzazione della base perfetta per le foto HD è davvero diversa da quella per gli eventi o per le serate. Pensavo di essere capace, ma mi son dovuta ricredere. Va bene, però: sarà un'occasione di pratica e divertimento (e tante belle foto per il blog). 

4. Vi capitano quei momenti imbarazzanti...

Chat Friday: L'Oréal Eau de Teint, new haircut, Effaclar Duo, finishing tasks

Sorry I'm late with my Chat Friday this week, but let's get on to it. 

Scusate il ritardo per questa settimana. Andiamo subito al sodo.

1. L'Oréal Eau de Teint foundation

I cannot decide weather or not this foundation may be suitable for me. Anyone with combination skin that has visible pores on the cheeks want to clear my head? I haven't found the foundation in my local drugstore yet, but I want to be ready.

2. Haircuts

My side-bangs are back in full force. I love my hairdresser (or hairstylist, whatever you wanna call them now): she knows exactly how to cut my hair, which is not always the case with me. In fact, if you are like me, you cannot rock full-on bangs, and you always need a diagonal in your side-bangs to look good. The result is what follows:

3. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo

I'm so thankful it exists! I had a bit of a situation left from my period, and I was so fed up with it that last night I decided to give it a go. Those horrible spots and their redness have reduced by 70%. I am so impressed! 

4. Arriving at the end of task and never seing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Argh! I'm currently typing the last chapter of my doctoral thesis. This is supposed to be the end, but I am so tired that I am not as focused as I was before. The end looks further away. Does that happen to you at all?

Ancora non ho deciso se questo fondotinta faccia per me o meno. Qualcuno che lo ha provato ed ha la pelle mista coi pori visibili sulle guance può rispondermi? Non l'ho trovato ancora qui vicino a casa, ma voglio esser pronta. 

2. Nuovo taglio di capelli

Nuovo si fa per dire, ma diciamo che finalmente ho nuovamente il mio ciuffo-frangia. Per fortuna da qualche tempo ho trovato una parrucchiera che sa come tagliarmeli, perché con me non è scontato. Io non posso portare la frangia (benché mi sia ostinata parecchie volte) e mi ci vuole sempre un ciuffo fatto con la diagonale. Il risultato è quello delle foto sopra. 

2. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo

Sempre sia lodata! Avevo dei bei ricordini (ricordoni!) lasciati dal ciclo e mi ero talmente stufata di vederli lì e di sentir dolore, che ieri notte ho provato la Effaclar. Stamattina mi son svegliata con le imperfezioni attenuate almeno del 70%. Sentite la vocina di Homer Simpson che dice "mi-ti-co!". 

4. Star per finire un obbligo e non vederne mai la fine

Ho iniziato l'ultimo capitolo della tesi dottorale e mi sembra di non vedere più la fine. Mi deconcentro spesso. Proprio non ne posso più. Capita anche a voi di arrivare alla fine e non vederla più?

Glossy blue smokey eyes: a make-up experiment

Those of you who have been following me on Instagram for quite a while may have already seen some of these pictures. 

One night I was bored, but inspired and I had fun trying out glossy smokey eyes on my friend and former flatmate (although I speak American English, I've always hated calling people who do not share a room with me, my roommates). The result is what follows:

In breve, una notte mi annoiavo, ma mi sentivo piuttosto ispirata e ho deciso di provare a fare uno smokey blu e glossy sulla mia amica ed ex-coinquilina. Il risultato è questo: 

Of course, this is not for everyone. On me, having a hooded eyelid, this just creases and it resembles nothing. But on Giulia's gorgeous, rounded and spacious eyelids, it absolutely rocks!
The technique is really simple: a creamy waterproof base, an eyeshadow of the same color, a warm brown eyeshadow to blend in the crease, a teeny-tiny bit of clear lipbalm, and a bit of clear gloss on top.


Chiaramente non è per tutti. Su di me non si vede un picchio e fa le pieghe, ma sugli occhi bellissimi, tondi e spaziosi di Giulia, è un look fantastico!
La tecnica è davvero semplice: base waterproof in crema, un ombretto in polvere dello stesso colore, un ombretto marrone caldo nella piega con la palpebra fissa, pochissimo burrocacao trasparente, un tocco di gloss trasparente, ed è fatta.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Stereo Rose

Stereo Rose does not need presentation, but in case you've been living under a rock, I will tell you that it is a Mineralize Skinfinish blusher by MAC. 

Unfortunately, this product is a limited edition, but since it's one of their best sellers, it come out in several collections. I highly suggest to get your mitts on it the next time it gets repromoted because it is the most wonderful blusher I have ever seen. 

Everyone keeps telling me how radiant and lovely my skin looks when I wear it (especially on Bourjois foundations) and I couldn't agree more. 

Stereo Rose non ha bisogno di presentazioni, ma nel caso viviate su un altro pianeta, vi dico giusto che è un blush dei Mineralize Skinfinish di MAC. 

Sfortunatamente è un'edizione limitata, ma visto che è uno dei loro best seller, lo fanno uscire in svariate collezioni. La prossima volta che lo vedete uscire in una delle loro innumerevoli edizioni limitate, vi consiglio di fiondarvici sopra perché è davvero il più bel blush che abbia mai visto.

Ogni volta che lo porto non c'è persona che non mi dica che ho la pelle radiosa e bella (soprattutto se sotto metto un fondotinta Bourjois) e devo dire che concordo. 

It looks pretty bright in the pan, however, on the skin it is just a wash of color that gives you the prettiest, healthiest coral flush with a hint of gold sheen.

Nella confezione sembra molto vivo, sebbene sulla pelle sia giusto un bellissimo tocco di color corallo, che conferisce un aspetto sano anche grazie a una certa luminosità dorata. 
Ecco, le foto non gli rendono giustizia, ma diciamo che l'effetto è questo:

The last picture is a very low definition sneak peek of a look I did for a photoshoot. Obviously it was not over and I look far from glamourous in my bobby pin, but you get my drift. 

All in all, I see this as a product that lives up the hype and that is totally worth the splurge. You can find this at MAC counters, or on your country's MAC official websites when collections have it, and I think I paid this either 25 or 28 euros in Italy. But I also have been using this almost everyday since fabruary and it still looks new. 

P.S. Another plus size is that it is sheeny, but not glittery and does not enlarge my pores, but diffuse the light so that you don't even notice the pores are there. 

L'ultima foto è un'anteprima di pessima qualità di un trucco per un servizio fotografico. Ovviamente non era finito e io son lungi dall'avere un certo glamour con la mia bella forcina, ma "capisc' a me". 

Insomma, secondo me questo è un prodotto MAC che mantiene le aspettative e vale bene i soldi che costa. Si può trovare presso i counter MAC, o sui vari siti internazionali di MAC, quando una collezione limitata lo preveda. Penso di averlo pagato 25 o 28 euro in Italia. Però lo uso quasi tutti i giorni da Febbraio e sembra ancora nuovo. 

P.S. Un altro punto a suo favore è la luminosità senza glitter, che non mi rende i pori super visibili, anzi, serve a diffondere la luce e i pori non si notano nemmeno.

Chat Friday: pill, moving, books, new graphics.

So I've been more active on the blog (and its related social networks) lately, and I thought to myself it was time to start a new series. Something that was not strictly make-up related, something that can have me engage on a more personal level with you guys. Chat Friday will be a series of posts where I can ramble about totally random things and ask you guys for your opinion. 

And now I feel like a total weirdo for thinking "how cool is that?!". Alright, let's get to it.

This week on Chat Friday:

1. Birth-control pills: are you still on it?

I've been off the pill for 4 months now, and although I have experienced an ugly acne (real acne!) breakout last month, I do not regret my decision for now. Upsides: acne (as I used to know it) did not return, I've swallen down a bit, water retention has decreased, I do not experience massive pain in my neck or headaches anymore, I save a lot of money, I have less and less toxins in my body. Downsides: I go all nuts at least once a month, skin is oilier, I experience breakouts during the period, I have some small cramps.

Lots of girls have gone off the pill lately, for many a reasons. So, what do you think? Do new pills make you suspicious as well, and did you decide to give it up, or are you still on it? 

2. Books: Et rester vivant, by Jean-Philippe Blondel.

The book I'm currently reading. A tiny authobiographical novel about how eventful travels make you process your grief. No tears, no melodrama, just the story of someone who has been very unlucky, but has decided to live. After all, "It's all about staying alive, and about how you and why you finally decide to get on with your life - and at what cost". Have you heard of the novel or its author?

3. Moving abroad: can you relate?

It makes me feel happy and scared at the same time. I cannot wait to start my adventure abroad.

Do you have any suggestions for someone who is going to move to France?

Avevo bisogno di una nuova serie su questo blog, perché riprenderlo in mano dopo così tanto tempo significa avere un'ottica diversa. Ecco, ho pensato ad un qualcosa che non fosse troppo attaccato al mondo del trucco ecc. quindi è venuto fuori Chat Friday, un condensato di cose a casaccio che mi vengono in mente e che vorrei condividere con voi, per sapere le vostre opinioni. Questa settimana...

1. Pillola anticoncezionale: la prendete ancora?

Io ho smesso 4 mesi fa, senza pentirmene nonostante lo scorso mese abbia avuto un bell'attacco d'acne. Lati positivi: l'acne non è tornata, mi son sgonfiata, la retenzione idrica è diminuita, sono cessati i dolori al collo e i forti mal di testa durante "quei giorni", mi libero delle tossine, e risparmio un gran bel paccone di soldi. Lati negativi: almeno un giorno al mese divento psicopatica, la pelle è più grassa, in quei giorni ho dei brufolazzi, indolenzimento generale.

Onestamente questi effetti dovuti alla sospensione mi fanno insospettire molto, e ho notato che in tante si sono lanciate nella prova "senza pillola" di recente. Voi che ne pensate?

2. Libri: Et rester vivant, di Jean-Philippe Blondel.

Lo sto leggendo in questo momento. E' un brevissimo romanzo autobiografico sull'influenza dei viaggi pieni di eventi nel processare il dolore. Niente lacrime, nessun melodramma, solo la storia di un uomo che è stato molto sfortunato, ma ha deciso di continuare a vivere. Perché dopotutto: "It's all about staying alive, and about how you and why you finally decide to get on with your life - and at what cost". Avete mai sentito parlare del libro o del suo autore?

3. Trasferirsi all'estero: vi ci ritrovate?

Mi rende felice e impaurita allo stesso tempo. Non vedo l'ora di iniziare questa mia nuova avventura all'estero. Avete qualche consiglio per qualcuno che va ad abitare in Francia?

4. Nuova grafica al blog: che ne pensate?
