Birthday make-up look

I am posting this exactly one month after my birthday, but do we care?! Nah. 

I guess what really is important here is the fact that I am telling you all, this kind of make-up allows people with hooded eyes to wear super dark eyeshadows without looking like a. a panda; b. a modern version of Pierrot; c. a total mess.

It is sleek, modern, and it incorporates two looks that hooded eyes people struggle with: smoky and cat eyes.

In ogni caso, penso che la cosa importante di questo post sia semplicemente mostrarvi come questa tecnica permette alle persone con la palpebra fissa un po' cadente di portare gli ombretti molto scuri senza sembrare a. un panda; b. una specie di Pierrot in chiave moderna; c. semplicemente uno schifo.

E' pulito, moderno e include due tecniche abbastanza ostiche per le persone con gli occhi simili ai miei: smoky e cat eyes. 

I took inspiration from a video Illamasqua posted on their Youtube channel, and I think this will be my go-to dark eyes make-up from now on. 

Ho preso ispirazione da un video che Illamasqua postò tempo fa sul suo canale Youtube (che vi esorto a guardare), e penso proprio che questo sarà il mio look ogni volta che vorrò portare ombretti scuri.

Illamasqua Sealing Gel + Pure Pigment in Zeitgeist on a Real Techniques eyeliner brush

Illamasqua Vernau eyeshadow slightly blended on the crease

Too Faced Glamour Dust (glitters) in Glampire at the center of the lid (I used Too Faced Glitter Glue to stick them) 

Soap & Glory eye pencil in black

I kept the rest of the face super neutral. Just remember to wear your blush quite high on the cheeks, almost in a contour shape with this look. 

Il resto del viso va tenuto più neutro possibile. Ricordatevi solo di stendere il blush fino in alto, quasi in posizione da contouring.

Carnival make-up: the 60's

Just when you think the holidays are over, some countries celebrate the holiday that allows you to change your identity for a few day, something that I believe is much awaited from all beauty bloggers: Carnival.

2013 Resolutions (really, this time?!)

Happy New Year, my beloved readers!

I hope you had wonderful holidays and that this year will be better than 2012. 

Yes, overall 2012 finished pretty well for me, but hell it was hard to get through it. I don't know about your country, but here in Italy, recession hit like a b*tch and even pubs are going out of business, so there was not much space for fun.

So, seeing how I will turn twenty-freaking-nine in five days *panic*, I guess a post about my 2013 resolutions - which I should follow through this time, considering I'm a real adult now - is in order. 

Withouth further ado....

1. Quit buying make-up like there were no tomorrow. That includes ending the quest for the perfect foundation and mascara, and only buying them when you need them.

2. Give up smoking. A classic, which I already failed at. 

3. Sell or donate clothes that you don't use anymore, before buying some more.

4. Only buy clothes when you need them (I pretty much sense I am about to fail this. Sales started today).

5. Only buy shoes when you need them.

6. Focus on your doctoral thesis more, in order to finally be done with it and run away from this freaking country.

7. Hit the gym regularly and eat properly. Yes, Lyd, go to the gym regularly until the end of the month. And the end of the month is never the 15th!

8. Post on the blog more reguarly.

9. Make more FOTD'S posts. Another classic....

10. Read more novels. Until I finish them, that is. It's been two years that I start novels and never finish them.

11. By doing 1, 2, 3, and 4, save more money for more travels.

12. Follow through with my plans. Lyd, when you read your daily to do lists...do exactly what they say. In that exact order!

Illamasqua Flagship Store and Beauty School Drop-in. My experience.

While I was in London, I paid a visit to the wonderful Illamasqua Flagship Store in Beak Street and I was lucky enough to attend one of their Beauty School Drop-In sessions. 

Durante il mio soggiorno londinese ho visitato il meraviglioso negozio di Illamasqua in Beak Street e sono stata anche talmente fortunata da poter prendere parte ad una delle loro sessioni di Beauty School Drop-In.

 The store is very easy to find: walk until the end of Carnaby Street, cross the road and you'll see it in all its glory. 

Il negozio è facilissimo da trovare: camminate fino alla fine di Carnaby Street, attraversate la strada e lo vedrete poco più a destra in tutto il suo splendore.

Unlike any other make-up store I'd visited before, Illamasqua takes you to a place where you make an actual experience, rather than just buy. All the shop assistants are also super talented make-up artists; despite the black dress code, they all have their individual style; they help you with kindness and experience, they let you free to play with everything without overwhelming you with their presence.
You can spot some of them playing around with make-up at the window, much like living manequins, or doing a make-over to whoever requests the service.

 Diversamente da tutti gli altri negozi che ho visto, Illamasqua ti catapulta in una vera e propria esperienza, piuttosto che verso il mero consumismo. Tutti i commessi sono in realtà dei talentuosi truccatori e nonostante l'obbligo dell'abbigliamento rigorosamente nero, hanno tutti uno stile personale, che li differenzia l'uno dall'altro. Aiutano tanto, con la loro esperienza e la loro gentilezza, e lasciano liberi di provare tutto quel che si desidera senza dover sentire il loro fiato sul collo. Ogni tanto si può vedere qualcuno di loro che si trucca in vetrina, quasi come dei manichini viventi, oppure si trovano impegnati in qualche make-over, servizio che offrono su richiesta.

The decors are artsy; you can sit on the lovely sofa if you wish, and from there, you can see the entrance to the Beauty School, which I was super excited to attend. 

Le decorazioni nel negozio sono molto artistiche e c'è un graziosissimo divano su cui è possibile sedersi liberamente, anche a provare le cose. Da lì si può vedere il salone della Beauty School, che ho avuto la fortuna di frequentare.

Beauty School Drop-In sessions usually takes place on Sunday afternoon, at around 1 pm and last up to 5 pm. It is a free make-up masterclass, where you can see expert hands in action, and you can learn tips and tricks. 

I attended on a Halloween weekend, so the class was all about Halloween make-up and inspiration. I had the chance to meet the extremely talented Charlotte and Daniel: Charlotte is even sweeter in real life, and Daniel is just so much fun! 

Needless to say, I recommend this experience to everyone who lives in London, or happens to be there on a Sunday. But beware: everything makes you want to buy the entire store if you could! 

La Beauty School Drop-In si fa di solito di domenica pomeriggio, intorno all'una, e dura fino alle 5 circa. E' un corso completamente gratuito, dove potete vedere mani esperte in azione ed imparare tutti i trucchi del mestiere.

Io ho frequentato in un weekend pre-halloween, dunque tutta la masterclass era incentrata su quel tema. Ho avuto la fortuna di conoscere Charlotte e Daniel, truccatori ed insegnanti pieni di talento: Charlotte è ancora più dolce di persona e Daniel è davvero un tipo divertente!

Non occorre dire che raccomando caldamente l'esperienza a chiunque abiti a Londra oppure si trovi lì una domenica. Ma fate attenzione: vi verrà una voglia di comprare tutto il negozio!

For those of you with a hooded eyelid, go over your natural crease and draw the line, and elongate it rather than flicking it upwards.

Nuxe Crème Fraiche de Beauté

Marketed as a "botanical milk-shake", the Crème Fraiche line by Nuxe is the quintessence of moisture and hydration. I will now review three pieces I've received from this line, and hopefully make you understand why I praise this line so loudly. 

Pubblicizzata come "milk-shake vegetale", la linea Crème Fraiche di Nuxe è la quintessenza dell'idratazione. Seguiranno le recensioni di tre prodotti di questa linea che ho ricevuto da Nuxe, nella speranza che possiate capire perché ne tesso così tanto le lodi.

CREME FRAICHE DE BEAUTE

For normal and sensitive skins - this is a rich-in-texture moisturizer, that is still soft and does not leave a greasy film on the skin. It quenches, and soothes; it absorbs within seconds and leaves the skin soft and replumped. Hydration lasts all day, and it is a delicate blessing for every skin type now that the cold weather is kicking in. 

The packaging contains 50 ml, but has the downside of being made of heavy glass, though I'm pretty sure it was the necessary packaging to preserve this moisturizer, as it contains no parabens nor silicones and has 95% of natural ingredients. 

This is a fantastic moisturizer that I will definitely repurchase, no matter the price. It comes in two more versions: enrichie (enriched) - for super dry skins, and light - for those of you who need a mattifying effect too. 

 Per pelli normali e sensibili - è una crema molto ricca, ma comunque soffice, che non lascia nessuno strato lucido sulla pelle. Disseta e calma; si assorbe in pochi secondi e lascia la pelle soffice e rimpolpata. La sensazione di idratazione resta tutto il giorno, ed è una delicata benedizione per tutti i tipi di pelle, soprattutto ora che il freddo sta arrivando. 

Il packaging contiene 50 ml, ma ha la pecca di essere fatto di vetro molto pesante, anche se son certa che fosse necessario per preservare questo tipo di crema, perché non contiene né parabeni né siliconi, ed ha il 95% di ingredienti naturali. 

E' una crema fantastica che ricomprerò con assoluta certezza, indipendentemente dal prezzo. E' disponibile anche in altre due versioni: enrichie (arricchita) - per le pelli ultra secche, e light - per colore che hanno bisogno di un effetto opacizzante in più.

SERUM CREME FRAICHE DE BEAUTE

Some time ago, during a bloggers event in Milan, I learnt that there is no such thing as hydrated skin (therefore no hydrating products) in nature. The term hydration, we use to indicate the amount of water that our skin is capable of absorbing. 

Therefore, when a serum leaves your skin feeling too smooth and slippery, almost wet, it is not giving you any "hydration" at all. 

This is how I know that this serum seriously hydrates: it absorbs ultra-fast. It completely disappears into the skin and you don't see any fake luminosity, or chemical softness. It just feels as if you plonged your face into water for hours, and your skin is fresh and replumped.

And you know what I love about it? Unlike other similar products, you can put it on your eyes!

Tried and tested, and I love it. I have used this products on mornings and nights and the result is always great!

Qualche tempo fa, durante un evento per blogger a Milano, ho appreso che in natura non esiste la pelle idratata (e di conseguenza, un prodotto idratante). Il termine idratazione lo usiamo per indicare pelli che assorbono più o meno l'acqua. 

Perciò, quando un siero lascia la pelle liscia e quasi scivolosa, quasi bagnata, in realtà non sta idratando proprio un bel niente. E' così che so che questo siero idrata veramente: si assorbe immediatamente. Sparisce completamente nella pelle, e non si vede luminosità falsa, o non si sente quella morbidezza chimica. Sembra quasi di aver immerso il viso nell'acqua per ore, e da l'effetto fresco e rimpolpato alla pelle. 

E sapete cos'altro mi piace tanto? A differenza di altri prodotti simili, si può usare anche sul contorno occhi! L'ho provato e mi piace tantissimo. Ho usato questo siero la mattina e anche la sera e il risultato è sempre bellissimo!

MASQUE CREME FRAICHE DE BEAUTE

The ultimate hydrating mask, in my opinion. You can have your 5 minute's boost with it, or you can leave it on for an entire night, your skin will be wonderful. Especially if you're experiencing tightness, tingling, redness etc. And, again, the best thing is that you can put it onto your eyes contour!

La maschera idratante per eccellenza, secondo me. La si può lasciare per 5 minuti o per tutta la notte: la pelle sarà comunque meravigliosa. Soprattutto se si soffre di pelle che tira, prurito, rossori ecc. E, ancora una volta, la cosa più bella è che si può usare sul contorno occhi!

Overall, I do recommend this line to everyone and anyone. Prices may not be suitable for students on a budget, but they are well worth it (but hey, Christmas is near, afterall!).

I swear by this in any weather condition now - humid and windy Sardinia, cold London weather, and rigid Germany fall. It has worked wonders in any situation!

Nuxe is available in pharmacies, so you know it's high quality. Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to repeat that their products are made of 95% natural ingredients, contain no parabens and/or silicones. 

In generale, raccomando questa linea a tutti. I prezzi non sono proprio per studenti, ma i prodotti valgono ogni centesimo (ma, rallegratevi, che Natale è vicino!). 

Io mi fido ciecamente di questo prodotto in qualsiasi condizione atmosferica: l'umidità e il vento di Sardegna, il freddo di Londra, e il rigido autunno tedesco. Ha funzionato benissimo in qualsiasi situazione. 

Nuxe è disponibile nelle farmacie, quindi potete fidarvi che la qualità sia elevata. Oh, e non fa male ripetere che i loro prodotti son fatti con il 95% di prodotti naturali, non contengono parabeni e/o siliconi.
